Remote central locking

Sorry if this is in the wrong section probs because im not a full member (Yet)

My barerel on my lock on the drivers side has broken so i have to lock my door from the passenger side on my Sri as it only had key'd central locking. I havent got a quote from nissan about a replacement barrel and i cant imagen it being cheap. So i am thinking about putting one one of these Remote central locking devices off of ebay or something quite cheap.

has any one done this on an almera? can it be done?

If so i have seen two types:

one with the whole kit including accuaters to lock and un lock the doors, which i take it my car will have something like that already in it. e.g

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-NISSAN-MICRA-ALMERA-REMOTE-CENTRAL-LOCKING-4D-KIT_W0QQitemZ390006016568QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item390006016568&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

The kit with just the fobs and a sort of controll unit that works with your locking system...

Hey there

Firstly, im not on here enough to know how much you know.... but I wouldn't suggest that this system will be easy to fit! I spent way too long learning about the locking system on the Almera, and from what I remember, it doesn't use the either of the standard systems to lock/unlock the doors, and you may need to make your own control unit if you decide to wire it straight into the central locking system (unless it splices directly into the actuators - which I highly doubt =\!)

A confident and reliable auto electrician could more than likely manage to do it, but wouldn't say its the sorta job you could DIY, unless you know enough about electronics to pull it off.

Looked at the one with the actuators too.... that looks like its complicating the matter even further!!!

I would not get that system from ebay its a central locking kit and has a key fob on there. the key fob may be easy to copy so security would not be good I personally think. I would spend a bit more money and gert a steel mate or a toad cat 1 or something that is branded. fitting central locking should not be too hard on the almera.

I do not think you will require any motors for this just a alarm system. the alarm system should work with the standard motors if not worse comes to worse 1 or 2 motors is required. you can get a toad cat 1 fitted for about 210 or so (ebay Toad Ai606) you don't have to have a cat1 you can get a cheaper one Cat2 or something like that, but call up your insurance company and ask them how much difference would it make if you had a Cat 1 fitted. when I got a cat 1 fitted it was cheaper by 200 so I got 1 fitted.

im not an expert on alarms but I know how they work and etc.

edit: when I had my N15 I remember they never used any extra motors for the central locking

No point getting a cat1 on an N15 surely? Insurance wouldn't go down that mich I wouldn't think. The reduction on insurance is based on the vehicle being stolen (i.e. total loss), so the premium reduction will be based on the sum insured (value of vehicle), fair enough, your N16 is probably around 5k? but the sum insured on an N15 would be nearer £1k, factor in an excess of around £250 and its not worth the insurance company putting down your insurance other than as a gesture of good will!!

I've gotta agree though, the easiest way is to get an alarm fitted - by a qualified auto electrician, as they'll be able to sort out the central locking and everything :). Wouldn't personally bother with a Cat1, I used to have a Viper alarm on my 'mera which cost around £130 fully fitted - and did everything it needed to!

In addition, they're gonna have to get around NATS to start the engine... so even if they get in, worst they can do is steal your stereo (or mobile, handbag, or anything else you leave in there - bad idea!) unless they reaaaally want to steal your car, but most thieves just take what they easily can.

I am talking about my N15 insurance went down by 200. (I was 17 when I got insured)

I fitted a cat 1 on my N16 and insurance never went down at all

Who steals an almera...
N16 got stolen the other day in scotland

Bit wierd :S
Incase you're good with electronics etc yourself. the central locking box has 2 pins which are unconnected on non-remote versions. When connected to ground, one will lock the doors, the other will unlock them. Makes it easy to make yourself remote locking then. One day I will get round to it lol.

I wonder how you learnt that :P

I still wanna try it and see if it works, I reckon we could make our own control boxes for the C/L if it works, should be pretty easy if it works.

don't forget the N15 may be easier to steal thats why insurance dropped and the N16 it never dropped

I never fitted the alarm myself I got my dads friend that use to have a contract with volvo fitting aftermarket parts like alarms and reverse sensors and etc

He never said you did fit it yourself....? He was trying to answer Leighs question

Anyone had a run-in with NATS? its not nice..
I took the red chip out my key to see what would happen.. engine starts as normal but shuts off immediately!
Nobody's stealing anything with NATS on it, unless they put it on a trailer.

my only run in with nats is when i tried to get a key for the micra cut... they wander 30 for the key... and 60 to have it programmed. i was like. nawww...

Im not sure if it is worth spending quite a bit of money on an alarm as the car is not worth it, I have a friend who is a mechanic so we (he) will probably tackle this so all i really need is something i know which will work. i have briefly looked at this make called meta which my friend has on his car, this does just a key-less entry insted of the alarm aswell which is what i want:

http://www.abacuscaralarms.co.uk/alarms/meta/hpa2.html

Not sure on the price yet but am considering it if its not too expensive. There is a wiring diagram on that page that shows central locking controlls so maybe this one will be ok if my friend gets his head around it!

In relation to this

What would i need off another mera to get my remote central locking working? just the fobs and receiver?

A key-less entry system is an electronic lock that controls access to a building or vehicle without using a traditional mechanical key.Wireless system to control it by key fob technology if you feel any problem then to check you battery probably low or internal problem to occur them so, change it along with i expose the security doors for a home is compatible vital to safe life. To install dial a door security system is a best choice for.
