Removing back seats?

Has anyone tried this? the idea of taking out the massive back seats appeals to me, as i rarely use them, but when i had a look inside my car, i cant imagine them being gone,! the plan was to rake them out and fit a roll cage (not that i plan on rolling) but i dunno what i could do with the yards of bare metal left behind?:S

I'm not really into ICE so i wouldnt want a huge install, it's making me think leaving them in would be for the best, but they're annoying me! sitting there all smug. Any thoughts??

i dont lol, i just think they'd look nice, lightly smoked windows, with the rollcage showing through, im not sure to be honest, it would look quite odd with no back seats, i might need to put like at least a bench or something in! but i like the idea of chucking loads of stuff out of the back of my car, saving weight etc. perhaps screwing a sheet of chequerboard plate onto it would make it look nice, it'd look more racingy i think!

A roll cage has more use than just preventing your head from being squashed into your gut during a roll or 3. They help stiffen the chassis and give better handling due to the less flexing of the bodyshell. Similar thing on the rear, them big plates over your suspension top mounts, they help stop body flex too.
The chequer plate idea however it may look nice, it wont be any lighter than the seats would of been.
could buy a large roll of cloth and trim the bare metal etc, it may help tidy it up

Insurance wise costs quite a bit more once you fit a roll cage mate!
Why dont you do something "pimp my ride" and put pool table in or something?

I was thinking of the best idea "keep them in" I mean any mods u do like roll cage u will have to tell insurance. I was going to get tinted windows but then i asked insurance they wanted a extra 44 quid for a addional 4 months i mean thats crazy.

 pool table sounds a bit mad why not a Sony/Pioneer plasma screen :D lol.

If you are into speed and safty then remove it and put a roll cage in if u into looks get some amps sups and a mini fridge in the middle :) and then get some TVs in there and it will look well nice :)

I did it for a while on my sri. it doesnt take very long to do, looks interesting when finished, but its alot louder inside,

you can hear everything going on in the back (exhaust/ suspension etc). I removed, rear seats, belts and parcel shelf. Didnt really feel much different, I just dont carry a spare wheel now instead. Stupid i know, but it wont fit over the front brakes anyway.

this is rediculous. why have i got some retarded smiley halfway through what i typed?

is that it? that's less than my telly

I'm really questioning why i want to do it to be honest! it wont give me extra weight, will mean the car's alot less practical, and all i'll gain is rattle and noise!

that said, i think it would look cool! especially if cheap chequerplate metal was cut and fixed to the seat boss and the sides (where the fabric is now), i might have a go of it if it doesnt take too long to do, i could keep the seatbelts in and any extra passengers could perch on the old seat boss, although im sure that's illegal!

This goes against my theory of only having practical, functional mods! I'm not sure what this tells me about my personality:(

Strip it all out and get some nice plastic trays with a selection of rolls, buns and baguettes ;)

Aye :(

Turning soft in my old age - the Toldeo feels much more solid than the Almera did and much as it pains me to say so, the 1.8 20V actually pulls better than the GTi engine

Main plus point is that, being an old giffers car, (like the 'mera) it's relatively cheap to insure dispite my 0 NCB and 6 month TT99 ban :O
