removing black plastic sidebars

just looking to get the black plastic sidebar things off the side of the car am afraid of the paint coming off with them. Any suggestions on how to remove them, i assume they're just glued on?

Hair dryer & gentle leverage to get them off, then go over the area with T-CUT to blend the colours in (will be a totally different colour to the rest of the panel), then give it a good pollish & it should be OK. :)

will this deffo not do any damage?? I wana do this on mine, no1 has a pic of theirs on a Black mera by any chance do they?? lol..

Yeah mines got them..

but 1 is wearing away a bit and somehow water creeps underneath it a bit, and when I clean the car, water drips from underneath somehow... cant really describe how.. but I was thinking about taking them off all together anyways lol..

sorry, to correct: Im not talking about the bumpstrips lol, just read what you said there.. its the black pillar plastic malarky things im on about lol..

Nice one guys, thanks for the advice. Time to dust of the heatgun and hope that the colours are not too disimular..

think with most heat guns you can adjust the heat, can with ours anyway and its only a cheap one. used it to get the horrible silver stripe off the side on mine, took me 8 hours i think to do both sides and theres no paint damage at all

i didnt remove what your going to mate, were little silver stripes down the side of the car.

was the silver stripe down the side in that picture, only mentioned them as an example of how long i used a heat gun for with no paint damage at all.

oh how shes changed

It took me longer than 20 minutes with the hair dryer+towel on finger method, and i had blisters on my fingers for ages. Car looked nice though.

so basically, a hair dryer and a lot of rubbing down??.. any liquids or cleaners or anything to be used?? just wondering lol...

p.s if it takes anywhere near 8hrs, stuff it... lol

Got the sidebars off at the weekend. 'orrible job mind and not recommended if you're feeling pissed off! Starts off easy enough; give 'em the hairdryer treatment and then gently pull them off, easy 20mins. But be warned, you've only just started. Stage 2 is definately where the graft begins; hairdryer and fingers to get the bloody glue stuff off, must of taken at least an hour and a half but is merely a warm up for the final frontier - t-cut mania to get the remainder of glue-from-hell off. Jesus wept. What were they thinking of? Must of been some 'who can make the most f*ck off strong glue' competition at Nissan in 1999.

Anyway - apart from getting dodgy looks from my bird after disappearing off with her hairdryer only to return 5 hours later with a sore right arm and swollen hand - it looks good and times a great healer so i'm sure i'll be chuffed soon enough..

If you're thinking of doing it tho, be warned, have a w*nk first 'cos your arms gonna be out of action for the rest of the day
