Hey everyone,
I've got a rather tatty and beat up N16, the stock stereo and speakers are kinda awful. I've been getting OK for too long, but I want to get some stereo for my long trips. All after market of course.
I've seen the guides on how to access / remove the stock stereo, also saw some 3rd party front fascia for like a tenner on Amazon, all looks rather straight forward.
I'm however quite ignorant about car stereos, but I don't see what could be that complicated.
As for the kind of player I'm looking for.
- easy to secure (removable faceplate, or removable unit). Don't need alarms and what not.
- Must be MP3s, USB connector, or at least a line-in / mic line.
- No need for CDs, cassettes, or other fancy stuff.
- very occasionally use the radio. Could always be useful.
- good amplification. Shouldn't be an issue as the audio section in an MP3 player would be fairly small.
- I prefer simple and straight forward controls over touch screens and fancy lights.
- matching speakers.
- budget is flexible, as long as I can remove the stereo out of the car and not worry about it.
Posting here if anyone has any gotchas, safe practices, advice or recommendations. Like disconnecting the battery before-hand, fuses, NATS... AFAIK, there isn't anything specific to worry about on these old cars. Don't care about connecting the external controls from the steering wheel, they are kinda broken already anyway.
Cheers!
