Rev Counter.....Help!!

My PH1 GTI rev counter jumps straight off the clock as soon as I turn on the ignition and stays there whilst driving, although sometimes may flicker say between 4k-8k.........any ideas, is it an electronic rev counter as maybe a faulty switch in gearbox?

Any help would be great as I always use the rev counter to drive properly

Sounds stupid but have you tried hitting the top of the dash?

Hitting the dash can sometimes cure it, I think its down to dodgy wiring. Mine has given up completely

My fixer-upper has a similar problem, likely caused by damp. Will take the clocks out and dry em, wd40 them too.

You got a special edition GTi 8k rev limit ha ! Nah will be dodgy wire or as corbs said just hit it lol
