whats the standard ride hieght on a standard phase 2 GTI, say in cm from the road to the bottom of the side skirts at each end?

lowered mine on coil overs but no idea how low ive gone lol

cheers

Ride height is normally measured from the bottom of the wheel (not tyre),to the top of the wheel arch! Can be slightly different on some cars though!

but with running non standard alloys this wont work, just need the above measurements to get a rough idea like

Hi another way to measure the drop and more accurate is from the centre of your wheel to the wheel arch rim.

My reading are approx front 390mm and rear 360mm. If you try the other method you have to take into account the tyre wall may be slightly different i.e under or over inflated = incorrect ride height reading.

How much have to you lowered you car by. Take a measurement reading as I have suggested.

Hope this helps

i think what scotts asking is, whats the hieght from the ground to say the wheel arch rim, or sill, on a standard gti. so he can then compare the same measurement on his gti with coilovers/different wheels.

voyagers way will tell you how much you've lowered your car by acurately, measuring from floor to skirt wont

the best way (with mine anyway) i found was to hook an measuring tape over the bottom edge of the wheel running through the centre of the wheel and taking a measurement at the lip of the wheelarch. however if the ground is even slightly uneven this measurment can change quite a bit. the best way really is to ensure that your struts are the same length. i.e the remaining threads on the strut are the same for the two front ones and the two rear. or as close as is possible, mine are bang on in that respect, but in my drive (it isnt level) the measurements from the bottom of the wheels to the arch are a few mm different. in this way, unless the ground is indeed dead level (and you can never rly tell that) this isan ackward way to measure. the book i got with y coilovers (KW VARIANT 1s) suggested that the best way of measurement was to measure the remaining threads on the strut rather than the car.

thats the way i do mine, with a micrometer(sp?), bang on to the .00  a bit fussy with things like that
