Rigid Tow Bar

The towed car still requires a MOT i believe mate.

I'm sure if it's on a rigid tow bar the then car is classified a a "trailer" as essentially it doesn't have any control as the car towing is doing everything.

I'm sure i've read it somewhere, so i'll try find it again.

`The vehicle to be towed must be fully legal in respect of having the registration number visible at all times and having valid road tax, insurance and
MOT test certificate. DO NOT tow a vehicle that lacks one or more of these requirements.`

Ok will see what I can do about that.

But, will the towing points being on opposite sides cause a concertina effect?

This is true for a conventional Tow.. Either a Rigid bar ( aids braking and accellerating control) or a Rope tow.. either way the car being towd has to have a driver on board..

HOWEVER, if a Dolly is used or a Towing A-Frame.. as in a system that can Tow a vehicle without the need for a driver, then non of the valid road tax, insurance etc.. requirements are needed..

I phoned the local constabulary(spelling) when i towed my gti. they were fine with it. Your best bet is a dolly though, so that it will take the two front wheels off the ground, rick your right as this then adopts the trailer like properties.

I think you'll struggle to tow it using the tow hooks corbs, think you're right about the concertina effect...looks like a dolly is your best bet, as it will eliminate a lot of your other probs like MOT and insurance
