rocker/cam cover gasket

tomorrow i will be removing the rocker/cam cover to polish it up. can anyone tell me if the gasket is made of rubber or paper, if it is rubber is it re-usable or a new regardless?
thanx for any info.

If you are reffering to a Gti then its rubber mate, if its in good condition and no tears or splits in the rubber then its fine to replace it again, but be careful not to nick it on replacing it back on the cam casing. A tip is to fit it inside the seal well underneath the rocker cover first mate ;)

sparky, sorry, yes it is the gti, thanx for the info m8, just what i needed to know.
on another note, do you know what the torque setting is for the bolts upon re-fitting the cover?

Ooh dam good question, and what ever ya do, do NOT OVER TIGHTEN, like I have in the past and snapped a stud off inside the head :o

Don't now the exact settings but if y hang on am sure Steve the Nissan Tech will answer it for you ;)

10Nm is the correct torque, but it doesnt even have to be that tight. You can do it by hand, and simply check for leakage by starting the car.

guys thanx for your help on this subject, i think that gives me a good chance of getting it right first time.

thanx again... :)

i'd also use a spot of instant gasket around the U shaped sections too, just to help make the seal a bit better ;)
