Rocker cover paint.

Right, ive seen a few other cars now with painted rocker covers. I was wondering if its something that can be done by myself or is it easier to spend a little extra and get it do professionally?

cheers.

  1. Remove rocker cover
  2. Remove grease with detergent
  3. Rub back with 240grit wet & dry
  4. Spray with filler primer
  5. Rub with 600grit wet & dry
  6. Spray first coat
  7. Gentle rub with 800grit wet & dry
  8. Spray 3 - 4 coats
  9. Laquer & top coat mixed (if possible, not essential though)
  10. Laquer

Leave 24hrs between Filler primer and Top coat and Laquer (3 days ish).
Laquer takes 14days to properly harden so maybe give that a day or two before you refit it.

You can repeat 4 & 5 a few times, and also 6 & 7, this is what I did to get a better finish.

I took this guide from GTROC and even with my 5minute attention span I managed to do a good job. Took a few days to do though so you might want to do this with a spare cover if you need the car every day.

ah awesome yh i was thinking of getting another cover. whats the best sort of paint to use? Just basic spray paint from halfords or better quality stuff as wont it need to be heat proof?

And edk the pictures have been deleted lol. cheers thou.

Yeah pictures are gone but as I said if you READ through the thread ;). Alan's done the business anyway though :).

You can see the paint im using there, just off the shelf halfords stuff. If you do need two cans though, make sure they have the same markings on them i.e I got one can which was older than the other (obviously Ford Highland Green isnt too common so it'd been on the shelf a while) and the colours were slightly different. Though it wont matter so much as your cover is one item and not 4 like mine were.
