rocker cover

I'm thinking about getting mine powder coated, i've seen some on here already powder coated. For those of you who have had this done, is there any risks to doing this? i'm guessing you dont want paint on the point of contact where it bolts onto the head. how would you avoid this? Bolt it onto a sheet of metal or sumit? also is there a gasket between the head and the rocker cover? would be grateful for any help thanks. :) Scott

probably have to scrap the paint off of the point of contact and yes there is a gasket think its in two bits tho

The gaskets rubber. Your not really ment to re-use it, but you can. Not sure what car you have, but on the GTi you have to silicone some of it - might be the same on the GA14 and GA16...

Painting the rocker cover is really easy, but needs lots of prep work:

This thread would be really helpful, but you can't view it coz your not a paid up member...

Yeah i re-used my gasket too, snapped two of the bolts though:( they're a bastard to tighten! be gentle!

and if the gasket dosnt stick to the head all the way around when u take it off then stick it in to the grove of the rocker cover b4 u put it bk on cause its a cunt to line up whn half of its sliding about lol

Half way round doing mine! Just need to flatten it n a bit of clear and she's done!
What do you think?

yeah good job. if i can be arsed to take my cover off again i might give it a werl. rubbed mine down to give it a smooth finish not so long ago

Ive just had mine powercoated, the best thing about powercoat is its a very hard finish, and it doesnt need flatting down its always flat, smooth and shiny after getting it done, so the recess where your plug leads is always as nice as the top, which is hard to do with paint

Yeah i noticed that mate! You cant get in to prep it very well! How come you went for that colour mate?

because I didnt want another blue colour in my engine bay, theres too many shades of blue in there already, and I like the look of met grey its still quite a metal colour if you know what I mean
if I added red in there or something else I think it would of been weird, I wouldnt of minded a lighter grey but not silver, but he only had anthercite in
