rust arches

can someone help me out on this, when the arches are rusty well bubbled say front wing has bubbled on the flat lip and just above how much does it cost to sort. good and how effective is it? cheers
 
snap mate. Ive got 1 arch thats a bit worse for wear thanks to the weather and a gate..

If you want to fix it yourself and spray it, the rust will eventually come back.. or you could get a new wing for not much then get that sprayed. Id say a garage could charge anything from about £70 to £100 to do it for you. (the robbers)

Me and GeeTeeEye are doing our own, cant be that hard mate lol. Give it a crack, sand it, fill it, prime, and either mask it off and spray urself or Im sure a garage would do it for cheap enough if you know a place..
 
I'd grind the rust off to make sure its all gone *nods*

Got rust on bottom corner of drivers door that I really need to get sorted, I just never get round to it though :(

Sand it down, grind the rust off, and may use a shot blaster to clean it up as best as I can, but the grinder should be fine, then i'll either paint it myself or get this sprayer I know to do it for me :)
 
i normally charge around £80 for a set of rear arches mate to give you a good idea of how much people should charge!

Dependant on how bad they are.

Well my arches at the back have rusted and a small spot on the side of the door. The guy is coming to my house, treating it with something that reacts with the rust and should last 3/4 years. He's doing all that painting it, the lot. That 2 rear arches, a bit on the door, the sills and touch up a bit of paint on the front bumper also leaving me enough paint so i can do my wing mirrors. All for £75. Can't complain at that.

Just to give you a rough idea, like you said of price and how long the treatment will last.

£75 for all that?? bloody hell mate that aint half bad that like!!!

2 arches sorted, sills and extra paint?? not bad lol..

How bad are the arches your talking about andy??

i watch a program called "Wheeler Dealers" on discovery turbo... they show you how to restore a car to almost new! a lot of times they do the arches and they show you in detail how to do it
 
just finished a nissna micxra k11 rear arches today!

it is relatively easy - and if you prep well you should be able to complete yourself
 
sanded down mine at christmas, and resprayed it with the stuff from halfords:( colours didnt match well at all, i understood tht there would be some colour difference,Just started to come through again, so a cheap fix i was quoted £80 per arch and there not even that rusty, just paint comming away where water and shit has got underneath. bit much imo
 
mine are fubar going to spend a lot of time over the next few months sorting them out in an atempt to keep the gti in decent nick otherwise its going to have to go for somthing cheeper im afrade
