Rust On Back Arches

Hi all, I am new here and this is my first thread

I have had a nissan almera 1.6 V Reg for nearly a year now. Have had no problems with it except new front brakes and a back box, which was just fitted today. I have a few vibration noises, seems to come from the dashboard somewhere, but nothing major.

However, the rust on the back drivers side arch is getting quite bad, and was wondering how much it would be to repair. I had a quote for £400, and thought that was crazy. The guy said the whole arch was knackered and needed replacing, but it doesn't seem that bad to me.

Any suggestions, places to take the car to. I live in the sunderland area. If the car is going to cost too much to repair, how much would it sell for ; hopefully it won't come to that

You really need to get rid of the arch rust as it will destroy your car. I've seen some pretty bad cases. £400 is not that bad to replace the arch.
 
thats no good,im luck that i dont have a spot of rust on my 99' T plate GTi. i guess its just a matter of time tho :(
ive treated the rear arches recently too, do the fronts need doing aswell?

......sorry to hijack the tread a wee bit.

Mines going in to have a full front end respray and the rear arches done on the 21st, been quoted £550 but my arches only have surface rust.
If yours are fookd then your looking at 80% of that cost being labour as i would imagine its a shite of a job to do.
Overall depending on how bad they are, the quote seems reasonable if not slightly high.

it does totally depend on the extremities of the rust

also colour of the car to be honest - if it is an easy colour match you can blend it in

but the extremity of the rust is whats the cause

£400 to have the full arches replaced, but should only be half that if they just need fixing

I have had a look at that link above, and I must say, my rust isn't as bad as that shown in the link. It is only on one side, drivers back arch, and a friend of mine says its just surface rust, and that I could probably sand it down myself ; he is gonna show me how etc, so £400 quoted seems to have been a rip off now, maybe he saw me coming
