Sat Nav Secure Message

Hello!

I've recently purchased a 2004 1.8 SXE. It comes with the Sat Nav system.

However there seems to be a problem with it.

After a couple of minutes the display will have a green backed secure message on it, and only the info displays and Climate control will work.

Also, before it goes into Secure mode the buttons on teh facia work, but the radio takes no notice of anything thats pressed. For example I can start the car up, turn the volume control, and the current volume level appears on the screen, but doesn't change. Its the same if i try and change the radio station, the key press is shown on the display by changing the button to an orange colour, but the radio system just appears to ignore the input. Same if i use the steering wheel controls.

The Src button will change to the CD input, but it doesn't actually notice there is a CD inserted.

The sat nav works OK, and the button presses work fine for that (until it goes into secure mode)

Is it likely to be faulty wiring? or am I going to need a trip to the main stealers to plug it in and make sure its all coded to the car?

I had the same issue on mine Rick, I think it may be a wiring fault as I can hear a crackle in the speakers then it goes into secure mode but the sometimes it absolutely fine. :/

I gave Nissan a bell today and its £75 for them to take a look. I'll get it looked at, at least i know if its an issue with it being coded to the car or not then. If not i'll have to strip the dash down.

Or buy speakers for my ipod lol

I had this appear once a week or so ago, but I'm having other issues with my immobiliser anyway, so it could be related to that.

IIRC it means different things if the message is green, amber or red.

Red means you need to send the unit away or something, I think green can fixed fairly easily. There is a thread somewhere.

Handy to know, mine was green, I think.

Indeed it is....

When the radio is locked
When NATS link problems occur “SECURE” message will be displayed in three ways indicating three different NATS link problems.

“Secure” on a red background indicates that there is a problem in the link between Navi control unit and Audio, suggesting that there is either a Navigation system fault or the Navi control unit has previously been fitted in another vehicle.

“Secure” on a green background indicates that there is a problem in the link between NATS IMMU and Audio, suggesting that there is an audio fault or the audio unit has previously been fitted in another vehicle.

“Secure” on a yellow background indicates that the transponder (NATS key) is not working correctly or it has previously been fitted in another vehicle.

When a “Secure” message (of any type) is displayed, it can be cleared by re-initializing the NATS system using CONSULT-II and the associated Immobilizer PIN code (there is no need to return the audio to a Clarion service centre). If re-initializing fails to clear a “Secure” message then the component (identified by background colour) is faulty and should be replaced.
