Hi there, I recently carried out a gearbox replacement on Schnakey's N16.
I had the phone call from him saying he had entirely lost drive and had coasted to a halt, when towing the vehicle to the workshop it was safe to say it was Fubared being the technical term.
Upon removal of the box, I decided to strip down and see what had failed.
It appears to be a weak casting of the Crown-wheel of the differential. as it had sheared off a few of the teeth on it. There are no markings/cracks on any other teeth, so its safe to say that the theory of the oil filler being too low is not the cause of the gear box failure. Whether this is the case on all, I dont know.
