Yes it will leave a hole, and two screw holes as well. Just get the steering cowell off a non-gti and you'll be fine.

The remote would originally have been plugged into the headunit, this wire should just pull out, no need to cut anything.

Cant the remote sticks be used with other units ? Hope so cos I'm changing mine to a Kenwood (has a remote wire for it ???)

Only with Sony units. Even if the new unit has a remote input/connection with it, the ones on the Almera are Sony branded and won't work with anything else. Fortunately I covered the hole left by mine with a bass boost controller for my sub amp :D.

Think I can deal with a hole,
I tried it with my Alpine out of interest and it doesnt work,
24-7 is correct.
Might see if I can get an alpine compatible one.
Failing that a cork will do ;)

Generally those inputs are for adapters that convert standard factory column controls to work with specific brand head units (like the basic unbranded control on pug 306s). I tried looking for an alpine branded column stick thing when I changed my head unit, but found nothing.

Bollocks !

Why does everything have to be complicated ? Why the fuk cant things be compatible ? Excuse my french !

So.....I buy a different remote stick for £?? or buy a different Sony headunit for £???.......Wot a rip ! Grrrrrrrrrr

if you want to use that kinda headunit control then either adapt the controls from another car (they must be standard kit with the car and not alpine/sony/whoever branded) or use another sony unit.
