spray painting

im looking to spray my grille tomorrow, ive got a can of paint mixed up for my car but its slightly lighter than my paintwork :O if i use a dark primer like grey will it make the paint a bit darker than using a clear or white primer?
do i need to prime at all if the grille is painted and not fillered?
and if i put more coats of paint on will it darken it a bit or just make the paint thicker and thats it?

cheers

it changes colour when you lacquer it. its gonna be difficult to get a good match

i used a beige primer when i painted mine and i think it turned out ok.

it will look gash after one coat but better after the second

We sprayed the wing and grill white on my old rover with paint which seemed much lighter than that of the car however as said above, it changes colour when you lacquer it and it looked spot on afterwards. as long as the paint is not too different it should be ok i would have thought.
are you sanding it down first or just spraying it as it is? if sanding use a couple of layers of primer and then 2 or 3 coats of paint and see how it looks then lacquer it. if its a light colour such as white or silver i wouldnt use a darker primer though.

if im right in thinking that p2 blue is the fairly dark shade then it will be fine to use a grey primer m8!

sprayed it and it looked good..but, from one view its a good match and when the sun shines its a diffrent altogether, ive rubbed it back and its forsale if it doesnt sell i'l be getting a proper match done
while i was at it i touched up the stone chips (lots of them) and the bumper looks good as newish
