As titled im gettin a squeak (not a knock) from the nearside front on my n15 Gti, it sounds like its coming from the top of the suspensiom strut.the car is on stiffned springs and it make the noise at different times.
Can anyone tell me anymore?
The local garage cant see any thing wrong and when they took it for a testdrive .....Yes it was perfect...

when you say stiffened springs, do you mean they arent the standard ones? and so the suspension has been disassembled and reassembled? the problem will be that the top mounts arent aligned properly. theres an arrow on the top and it must point outwards in the same direction as the lower legs

my standard dampers & springs do that. rubber dust gaitor on teh damper has perished and is rubbing the spring making a noise. nothing to worry about, just a bit irritating.

Its the bumpstop which has split.

This happens when you lower the car as the travel is seriously reduced, its combined with the strut gaitor and is a nissan only part.........aint cheap either.

Sri alan ,yes they are non standard it was lowered when i got the car i will get them checked asap

Rowdy gti ,maybe a dumb question but what do you mean when you say BUMPSTOPS? and what sort of price any ideas?

when theres no travel left in the strut and it reaches the end the bumpstop! i think....

Kinda makes sense a few dips in the road have caught me out !!

Its a piece of rubber that sits around the shock piston and stops the shock bottoming out and causing damage.

When you say its the bumpstops,What sort of price im i looking at and availability?(or is it a trip to nissan)

Its a nissan only job fella, you can only really see with the strut removed if it is the bumpstop that has split. 54052-0M011 is the part number

Thanks for the info ,i look further into it......

Also im thinking if its just lowering springs on it, how would you go about gettin it back to a softer ride ie fit some ph2 gti springs on it or is there any equivelant on the market?

The reason i ask this is the ride is too hard but bearable for the roads around bradford.(much like other towns, pot holes and speed humps everywhere)

sorry i cant identify exactly what is on it as it was bought lowered....Help appreciated...
