Squeaking noise

I posted up a while ago about a squeaking noise coming from the front right after my MOT when the steering rack gaitor was replaced. I've had a look under the car today at the gaitor, and it looks REALLY badly fitted. Parts of it are squashed in and it looks like it's been put on by a 6 year old. I phoned the garage and told them about the squaking noise (i'd definitely say it's a rubber on metal noise) and they said they didnt see how it could be the gaitor. Is there any way the ill fitted gaitor could be causing the squeaking noise when the car is moving? I.e. does it come into contact with any moving parts?

Thanks for helping :)

Well i jacked the car up this afternoon as i was sick of people staring as it squealed down the road. Got three nuts off as normal, but then when it came to the one that needs the adaptor, it was a right cow to shift. Had to put loads of force on it until it fully came off...looks like the f*cking idiot garage cross threaded the nut on there! Anyway couldnt find anything near the wheel and fiddled about with the gaiter for a while, put the wheels back on, took it for a spin and hey presto...noise gone!

Cheers rowdy :) I know  dont go to nationwide autocentre 'recommended by the aa' in Loughborough whatever you do! I think in this case, the aa stood for alcoholics anonymous! Eejits :P

i always stand over garages when they do tyres now, i make them torque the nuts properly aswell, last time i let them do the nuts fully up with an impact gun they snapped the stud straight off!

i dont trust any mechanic in any garage, my dad used to always have garages fit new exhausts, dampers, even servicing etc, i can do it all on the drive for a fraction of the price and have never had a problem as a result of it, virtually every exhaust hes had fitted has blown afterwards, the one on the almera was the first exhaust i ever did and it doesnt blow at all

your like me haha, my dad happily paid 400 quid to have the brakes and an engine mount changed on his 406. I couldnt believe it, told him and showed him buyparts and said i would have done it for the price of the parts! oh well.

exhaust systems are easy on the almera anyway, cant stand it when garages attack exhaust with a clamps here, a clamp there, oh its blowing a tad there so well stick some gunge on it, see how long it lasts.

Phoned the garage today about their 'handywork' and all they could say was 'well, I don't see how that could have happened - we'll have a look at it if you want'...bloody 'have a look'?! I'd rather let a blind man 'have a look' than take it back to that bunch of monkeys! Think my 2 year old nephew's quite handy with a tool kit...maybe I'll let him have a go at it next time I'm home

I refuse to let garages service my car, I don't believe they actually do anything, the only time it ever goes to the garage is if it's something I don't have the time or tools to do, or for the MOT...as rarely as possible :P

:respect: Exactly the same as me! :)

The only reason I didn`t fit my header myself was because it kept P-ing down the entire weekend, but I wanted it on, so thought "sod it, they`re only 100 yards `round the corner".
