SR20DET Swap

Hi,

I own an N16, and still running the stock QG15DE motor.

I have been thinking about swapping it for an SR20DET motor.

It seems most members on the forum go for the SR20DE rather than the DET.

Is there a reason for this? and has anyone successfully done the swap?

Sweet,
Thats a nice build! very interesting.
But wouldn't the gearbox from the FWD SR20DE bolt right on to the SR20DET?
Or would that cause problems?

I owned a nissan bluebird u13 previously. it had an SR18DE originally, but i later swapped it for an SR20VE with a few mods.
now i've moved on to a the Almera N16 and i'm loving it.

A gti gearbox will bolt to a gtir engine, 2 bolts cannot be used however, you will need to drill out the flywheel holes on the almera flywheel to fit the gtir crank

I take it by GTI gearbox you mean the SR20DE gearbox, And by GTIR engine you mean SR20DET??

So it can be fitted with some slight modification then. but then my other question would be.
Is it worth it? as in can the GTI gearbox handle the power?

Yes. It can handle the power. The most popular gearbox for this is the p11-144 which has a stronger third gear. Standard power of the SR20DET is 227hp and many have gone above this with their SR20DE+T builds

hmmm... interesting. are there any available turbo kits for the SR20DE?
or are they custom built??
which ECU do you guys recomend for a project like this?
and if so i guess you will not be able to use the standard drive shaft either.
Would the engine need to be forged for a turbo kit or are the engine internals strong enough?

I have so many questions :)

Maybe it will be easier if there was a post like this before?

No a standard gti box can only handle low power setups. 3rd gear fails and will fail, when is anyone's guess though.

The primera 144 gearbox is the strongest available but even these can fail.

As for a turbo kit there are no off the shelf options.

Get a cheap gtir intercooler setup from eBay all the pipework can be made to fit, get a gtir manifold and turbo then look to get a custom elbow and downpipe made as the stock items are no good.

Stock engines can handle 300hp happily as long as the map is safe.

A greddy emanage blue will do the job simply enough.

You can use sr20det engine from Avenir model with gti box with no mods. This engine produces 205 hp........
