The 1.6 Sri has a messy airfilter box, what has everyone done for that lil extra boost?

I have drilled my box but it looks tacky so may invest in a better option.

I'm tempted to get a replacement Pipercross panel filter for my SRi.

Not gonna do much, but noone has to know about it ;)

I found on my last car (ford focus 1.8) the standard airbox with a performance filter was the best setup, I tried a piper X induction kit (loud but loads of heat soak) & a K&N (same problem), & an AEI CAI Long Arm Induction which was the best of the induction kits, but was not any better than the standard airbox with a K&N performance panel filter!

Just my 2p's worth

Aftermrket Air Filter is the most common upgrade! Pipercross are good!

What one would you recomend? a cone or panel?

i'll need to get a new air box wont i as i was a bannana and drilled it, funny thing is the filter sits at a angle and when i drilled the top part of the box as the way the filter sits inside some holes bypass the filter altogher, it's currently gaffer tapped up for now lol.

i wouldnt get a cone it will just soak loads of hot air. Id get a new air box and a panel filter the maybe removed the current intake pipe n feed some flexi pipe into the passenger wing (theres a useful hole there)

or

make up some sort of short ram kit yyou need a 90degree silicon bend, some metal pipe work (im going to be getting a local guy to make me one) you can get stuff off ebay but will need extra bits of pipe as its not very long then bolt a filter on the end

or even easier but less custom

Focus 2.0l intakes fit the sri's but you usually need to import them (i think) have a search on ebay

Anyone correct me if im wrong im going from memory here

Panel filter seems the way forward then, so do we all agree pipecross is the one to get?

personally im going to go down the panel filter route but change the cold air pipe to the bumper, wing, fog light etc

No point in drilling the airbox on an SRi as it is the underside of the box you have to drill otherwise if you drill the top then the air isnt actually being filtered.

haha that's what i did then realised to it's tapped up.

a 90degree angle in your air intakes will slow the speed the air travel's at. Also a ram pipe it just a cold air pipe with a ram trumpet on the end. This is a pipercross ram trumpet:

The go on either end of your Cold air intake (if you use an open filter) or the end that stick's out the front of the car, if you use a closed type.

ive got a k+n on my ph1 sri with a cold air feed . makes a hell of a difference. :)
