Standard Air Intake

I've just put the standard air intake system back in my GTi, and taken out the sponge filter that was in there previously, using the parts that the previous owner gave me.

Now the intake is right behind the headlight cluster, not open to the outside, is this right??

Yeah i'm thinking about going back to my standard airbox, if I still have it all.
Need to sandblast all the fittings and spray em first - No point fitting it to have to take it off again to de-rust em haha.

not feeling a lot of performance increase from the filter, and I'm not sure how my insurance will stand if I have an accident

Yeh, I put mine back in because the noise on the motorway was just to rude. What I'm thinking of doing in putting a K&N panel filter in there, lasts forever, will give you a little better performance, less noise than a full induction kit, and there's no need to tell the insurance company :)

It's a shame that nissan decided that the intake would be best placed well out of the way of any inflowing air... :(

the intake aint that bad if you pull that pipe off and look half way across it theres a hole and that comes from outside the engine bay i think!

It connects to a resonator box !! Ive taken mine out!

i thought, well nissan put that air feed there for a reason so i put the filter as close to that position as possible behind the battery and it really felt like the car was struggling, as if it had lost 10-20bhp! cant see much air getting there

I have the standard box with a GREEN filter in, miles better than the HKS open filter. I am going to remove that little feed and run a piece of ducting down through the slam panel (where there is a hole, thanks Nissan) and run that down to the brake duct on the passenger side....

Forced induction, without the £200 price.

I was thinking of something similar, a bit of ducting and a K&N panel filter can't be too far off a full induction kit, plus I can cruise on the motorway without getting a headache.

i was thinking the same thing too.

Got a Suteki to fit and am going to run a cold air feed from it directly attached to the hole in the standard airbox.

I take it doing this would not cause any problems, would it?

Has anyone actually done this already?

The only problem you could get would be the feed getting blocked. Other than that and maybe moisture, I dont see a problem. Im going to do something similar. Only problem I had in the past was that the wire bead inside the pipercross flexi tubing rusted.
