Went to start the car today and the starter motor gave a grinding noise but did not start the engine. I was attempting to start the car 30 seconds after it was turned off, if that makes any difference lol.
From what I can gather, the most plausible explanation is that the starter motor did not engage correctly with the flywheel. Causes could be starter soleniod, starter teeth or teeth broken off or loose on the flywheel.
The long and short of it is that in 6 years of ownership, this was the first this has happened. I have started the engine 6 times since this, all without incident. Do I have to write off the starter now and get a new one, or can I just keep an eye to see if it happens again? Obviously something was amiss but I dont want to jump the gun if it was just a one off. Any thoughts much appreciated.
