Stick on Number Plate

Are sticker number plates road legal?

need to do something as i dont like the square plate stuck on the bumper.

Thanks, Paul

assumed they had to be incandescent (spelling lol) as in lights up when lights is shone at them.

Where are you thinking of putting the stick on one cov? out of interest?

Have to say i dont really like jap sized ones, thats why mines dangling on the floor and not a jap one :O

Could be an option for the sunny too? although from your avatar she looks pretty low

its the rear one i want to sort really, as where it has been placed it looks like an after thought and to be honest a bit dodgey haha, im not guilty though.

as you said it has to be reflective. I dont think there are any stickers that do meet the requirements, hence no, they are not legal.

i think i might try a regular rectangular one and see how it looks stuck to my bumper, turning out to be a right pig to get in conspicuous lighting onto the plate thou, thats my other problem, needs light but dont want some massive ugly light above it

Consett_GTi had a stick on front plate and I don't think he ever had any problems with his, but rear plates I'm not so sure, they definately need to be lit as you say, have you thought of hanging a regular one below the bumper like andrew smiths?

why not get the plastic surround from an almera and have it moulded into the bumper, so you have a recess for the plate there, and all the lighting sorted too.

Stick on number plates are illegal as they do not carry BSAU number (kite mark) and the materials used are not Government approved, reflective or not reguardless of size they are illegal.

oh fook. baught some new plates as my front one was nicked. made it on a site for £5.00 nothin on there other than my reg and AOC on the bottom. oh and stuck em on. AM i going to porky hell???

on the subject of number plates:
are the silver letters on black plate allowed to be on any car?? whats the deal with them? seen quite a few. think this would better on my all black car.

stick on number plates are not illegal just as long as yopu abide by the following

1. they are made from an authorised number plate maker to the correct text size and correct stroke factor spacing and has the company address in the small text so halfords or whoever.

2.rear number plates have to be lit up so that porky pig can see it

3. black/silver plates are for think pre - 74 cars only so if its made before or upto 1974 then black/silver is o.k. Anything after 1974 with black/silver plates are illegal

what gets me is why does the rear one need to be lit up?

think about it, if its dark enough to turn your lights on then the headlamps of a following car would illuminate the plate a lot better than a couple of low watt lamps, see what i mean? silly imo.

anyone know anything else about these. ive seen them on new prestigious cars aswell.

lit up number plates could be for the public. easier to see the plate and recognise it if the car was doing illegal things maybe. worded badly but you see what i mean.

I make around 20 pairs of plates a day an am an approved Tennants UK RNPS Number plate company. (well the shop is anyway) I do not and can not make a self sdhesive number plate that is road legal. The base materials do not come with a kite (BSAU) number and we are not allowed, as set out in the government guidelines, to add one or add our postcode as a traceble reference. Doing so will result in a 10k fine for my boss and 3k fine for me if i am found to be passing off 'show plates' as legitimate ones.

Black/Silver plates are for 1972 or older cars and you still need documentation for the car to have them made. Rear plates must be lit in conjunction with turning on your sidelights, TVR's which are pre '99 are backlit using a lightbox shining through a slightly opaque material. All current TVR's are lit using a bumper mounted light (i think)
