stupid question

I bought my Si a few weeks ago and it came with nissan alloys which I was told were standard. They're not the gti ones, so i'm not sure what they are.

Anyway, they're completely shagged, although one (only one!) has been refurbed for some reason. Does anyone know if I can chuck GTi alloys on without having an innaccurate speedo etc?

apologies if this is a thick question

niiiiioce. i have brand new goodyears on mine (came with the car) so if my insurance aren't swines about it I may well look for some GTi alloys and bung the tyres on them :D

Yeah I have GTi alloys on the Si and its all good, they're the same size wheels anyhoo :)

Same. You'll see them in my avatar 2. Shouldn't sting you that much anyway insurance wise.

GTi alloys with 195/50/r15 tyres on my SRi and my speedo misreads by 10% (GPS proven). It may have been misreading before though!

(GTi alloys are 15" and Si/SRi alloys are 14" btw)

with GTi alloys and 195/50/15's mine reads 100 when its actually doing 93mph  , aslong as it overreads its nothing to worry about anyway. chances are with the lower profile 15's it will be pretty much identical to the standard 14's.

thanks for those guys. I remember on my completely standard saxo the speedo overread by about 5-10%, so it may well be normal. I might test mine out 2morow with the gps and since mines is on standard si alloys (i think) I'll let you know if its out as standard.

I prob wont be changing them till after i get back from my european mainland driving adventure, too skint at the mo. Might see how much it costs to get the current alloys fixed in eastern europe, if its cheap might consider doing that instead. They're pretty shagged though.

Its not that expensive to get alloys refurb in this country.... my local guy charged me £35 per wheel & that was for refinishing and colouring them gun metal grey, they looke new when I got them back!!

I Put Gti,s On My Si And Scrubbed Them Up A Bit Myself , Came Up A Treat

your speedo should read right asllong as you run the right rolling radius so technicly you can have any size wheel aslong as the profile of the tyre makes the wheel tyre setup match the roling radius if your original wheel tyre setup.
im sure there are things on the net that will work it out for you by typing in the wheel and tyre sizes

Thanks for the tips. I think I'll wait till after I get back from driving through europe to decide whether to refurb or buy gti's, as (A) they will probably get shagged on the trip anyway and (B) I can't afford it at the mo. Called up insurance company, they want an extra £41 for gti alloys, which isn't TOO bad.

£35 per wheel for refurb sounds very cheap, but I've had a look around and haven't found anyone who charges the same here in london.

I'm going to be driving through france, belgium, germany, austria and hungary. When I'm in hungary I'll see if I can get my originals refurbed there for cheap, as everything seems to be considerably cheaper there. The alloys are decent looking judging by the single wheel the previous owner decided to get refurbed (wtf?).

i have standard alloys 14" and my speedo says 26 mph when im doing 30, this is from a tomtom sat nav, and also them scoreboards (the speed signs tht tell you ya speed)

You want 195/55/15s to keep the speedo 0.1% out.

BJV Engineering near Hemel Hempstead do refurbing for £25 a wheel.

And as Corbs said, SRi/Si alloys are 14" and GTi alloys are 15" so you won't be able to use your existing tyres.

That £25 per wheel sounds really good. I might try them. Although when they see my wheels, they might raise the price. The wheels really are completely shafted. Although one has been refurbed (I don't know). Will post some pics up later, so you can all laugh. :)

Just saw their website. Need to figure out a way of getting three wheels off the car and delivering them. (got one spare, so just two i guess).

Just a note, took my wheels down to BJV today, and will probably pick them up wednesday.

Will report back with pictures!
