sub & amp dilemma. FAO someone with technical know-how

currently I have a single Alpine SWR-1221D sub running off a QXSeries QXT200, but want to get another sub the same if possible. at the momoent it's running 1 channel per coil, but I'm told that through some trickery with the wiring and getting the impedances right, I could run a pair of SWR-1242D subs on just the one amp. How would I do this, and how effective would it be? would I be better off using single coil subs for this?

Also I'm considering a pair of 10" subs instead of 12". The idea basically would be to try and retain the low down kick of the single 12", but gain a bit more in the higher frequencies with the 10s. would that work?

ignore this, I've worked it out. if I get another SWR 1221D (2ohm + 2ohm) I can run them either at 1ohm or 4ohm off a single amp, but the amp can only go down to 2ohm so I'd either have to get 4ohm + 4ohm subs, or another amp. probably do the latter.
