Well as per the topic title really. How many people here use super unleaded? Does it make much difference to the SR20 engine? Does it make more of a difference for a modified engine? I've tried a couple of tanks of both super and normal unleaded, and I have to admit I can't really feel much difference.

Anyone dyno'd a GTI running on super unleaded?

Cheers :)

Clever marketing and the placebo effect make the car feel `faster`. Only any real benefit on modified cars.

I never use anything else, and not because of the belief im getting more power or economy, but purely because I feel its better for my engine. Just like using good oil instead of cheap crap.

Mine runs smoother on 97ron after ive advanced the timing, but thats it i think

only ever used shell optimax, wouldn't go anywhere else or use anything else, so couldn't comment on the rest

I use cheap supermarket 95 RON.

I did used 2 and a half tanks of Optimax once, so see if there was any difference... but there was none.

Would only buy it if I had to run high octane for some mods or somthing...

I use V-Power, car seems a little perkier on it but who knows?
I'm mainly using it in the hope that the detergents and lubricants clear out all the crap from 6 years of engine neglect by previous owner.

higher RON is a must if you want the car's engine to have a longer lifespan.. some say that you get better MPG, some people you get a better throttle response, but i know fine well that it's more cleaner burning than unleaded.. so I'd prefer to spend the extra few pennies

some japanese imports won't accept anything less too... in japan their lowest RON is 97... optimax is 98, here unleaded is 95 and in america it's 92...

That's kind of where I'm at with it. I think I'll just use 95 RON with the odd tank of Optimax to keep it all clean in there :)

I try to use the shell optimax stuff where I can, purely because I get better mpg. I get pretty much bang on 250 out of a tank of 95 ron and 300 - 320 out of a tank of optimax (which i think is 97?).

this is what i dont understand how can you get better MPG by using 97, the fuel system is the same and the injector operates for the same length of time, so delivers the same amount, any one want to educate me?

Had tank of 97 once and it did seem smoother and got more miles though.

prehaps it burns cleaner and the lambda probe senses that, and through some trickery/tomfoolery it ends up using less fule in total.

I tried using Vpower makes no difference in fact my car ran a little odd i just use Morrisons 95 RON and my car runs sweet!
