Hi,

It's good to find a group of fellow Almera-heads!

I've got a standard 1.5S. I happen to live in a road hump infested part of the world that is South West London. One thing I have noticed is that compared to other cars I have driven is that the suspension bottoms out if challenged with a big bump and if you take a corner quickly it makes a massive thud if challenged with a slightly uneven surface!!!

I'm not a crazy driver but don't appreciate driving around everywhere at 10mph hour either!

So basically want to know if there is any way to improve the standard suspension on an Almera so it can handle cr=p road surfaces a little better!!

Thanks a lot!!

maybe your shocks are going, a common problem.

can get some from here LINK

just getting my gti back from garage today after having them fitted so hopefully no more bouncing down bumpy roads.

PS. They are gas shocks (on gti anyways) so you can't visually see them leaking but you will feel it.

hawker how much did it cost what did they fix ? and what was the symptems ?

Cheers.

I bought the car with 18k on the clock!! But maybe the person before me used to drive over humps at 40mph! It'a annonying really cos driving around and having to take a deep breath whenever you see a big bump makes you paranoid. I'm even worse when I'm in someone elses car. When I tell them about my problem they look at me like I'm a nutter!

Even worse, when you get the thud it sounds like someone is trying to get into your car through your wheel arch!!

Symtoms: Going over the slightest of bumps caused bouncing, i was like one of those nodding dogs :( Going over speed bumps and dips/pot hosts etc caused the rear end to bottom out (a bang)

I got the rear shocks (kyb excel) for about £85 and it cost a small but proven garage 91 + vat to fit. When replacing the stud on one of the mounting plates snapped off, which they also fixed

cheaper to get them here i found later: http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/shock-absorbers.php

Now it is like a totally different car. well worth the cash.

mines squeeking from the front, went to a garage they did the pushing down ect and said they couldnt see any problem as it was lowered was harder to check or something, said come back when its worse lol
