Not bin on for a while as my sister wrote off my old mera, as propa gutted :(

Bin driving a Honda Civic 03 plate (familiy car) but doesnt compare! Ok its a diesel, but still! Really want to buy another Mera, mainly for two reasons, Reliablity and Economical in terms of cost and insurance. Thinking of the 1.6 model around an R/S reg maybe. What would a average price be. Also how much better is a performance of the 1.6 compared to the 1.4?? Also considering the newer shape mera say W reg.. Wat would price n performance be of that?? I have a prefernce to the older one as it will be more like my old one n seems to have better performance on paper. When I say performance Im mean just around town n here n there motorway etc not huge speed performance. 1,4 version was great for its engine size, better than most 1.4's around. Let me know guys please with any advice, will be much appreciated. Also hoping to move onto the the GTI in around 6-12 months when theres more money in the bank. Would it be realistic to hope for a good condition GTI with minimal to none mods??

The 1.6 engine is a good upgrade for the 1.4 but i dont think there would be a massive difference in the two! I have driven the 1.4 Si but not a 1.6 so i'll leave3 that to somone with more knowledge.

I would suggest the N15 over the N16 as i think there a better car. Ive driven a 1.5 E model N16 and i thought it was awful to be honest. For the amount of money youd pay for an N16 you could buy a Phase 2 GTi or a Phase 2 SRi a nice one at that!

And findinga Decent Standard GTi Then simple answer is yes you do find them most ive seen are standard!!

Another suggestion if you were gonna get an N16 - and TRUST me you don't - then the equivalent amount of money could be spent on importing a VZ-R or Autech GTi...

Both immense motors and, from an N16 owners point of view, the N15's are FAR superior by miles... Hence why i've contacted an agent about a VZ-R i've got my eye on :D

Must agree the N15 is far more superior...infact the N16 is complete shite

I thought as much, N16 was a bit dissapointing. N15 is far more refined and rounded from what I've seen. Sound drive too. Looks like I'l be keeping my eye out for a nice cheap N15 1.6!!

nooooo i just bought a N16 and now its complete shite!?

:(

it's not that bad is it? say compared to a peugeot? :s

The N16 gives you an insight into what its like to expect from a french car

instead of debadging your N16 you should REbadge it with the Renault diamond... More of an accurate and worthy fitting aka The Seal Of Total Shite

imo, the n16s are OK cars.. but they are only shite when compared to the n15s.. lol.. ums dont be put off just cause some people say its shite, fair enough there is a lot of 'frenchyness' in the car but they are still quite ok motors, all cars have flaws and the n16 is no exception.. either is the n15 but they dont have as many!!
the n16 is a great seller over here in ireland, probably just as popular as the n15 back in its day but it isnt the same driving experience as an n15!!

Yeah at the end of day, Renault influence aside, its still a Nissan... better than any Peugot, nuff said!!

there is a noticable difference between the 1.4 and the 1.6. I went from a gx (1.4) to an sri and as i say, you do notice the difference.

agree with ya there, i had a 1.4 last and have to say it was fairly slow :( they are good for economy though, been in a 1.6 and it does feel like theres a big difference!

Thats good to hear. I'd like to see some sort of difference. How economical is the 1.6?? As thats a important factor for me too.
