Timing belt

Got a 03 1.5. Basically when i start the engine when its cold there is whistling noise coming from the engine (guessing its the timing belt), the millage is almost 62k. Was wondering how much roughly garages cost to get a new timing belt

The only engine with a timing belt in an almera is the N15 diesel

the 1.5 has a chain

could it be an alternator belt squeel?

yep timing chain on that as paul said.

when you say whistling sound, do you mean squealing?

If it`s a belt squeal, it`ll probably be the alternator belt tensioner needs adjusting, as my Qashqai makes an almighty screech on start-up, but a well directed squirt of WD/40 sorts it out!

yeh more of a squeeling noise. Only does it when the engine is cold, the 2nd the engine is warm its fine.

IS there any ratttlewhen you start the car up?ie from the enigine? but squeaking sounds like fan belt.

just a squelling noise but when the engine is warm its fine. When i put my foot down aswell u can hear it a bit. I started the car up 2day and it was fine. Nearly all the time its squeeling and as i said sometimes its fine
