To strip or not to strip.....?

that is the question!??!?

seriously tho, what sort of improvements in acceleration/handling will it make?

it will only be the start, but it will be a while before anything else gets done, so will the improvements outway the extra road noise an less comfort?

cheers

Unless you go the whole hog and take sound deadening/plastics out you won't notice a diff when driving.

There's better mods to do before you pull it to pieces.

i was going to go the full 9 yards...

seats, carpets, deadening, roof lining, plastics, bits of the dash, door/boot cards, centre console, lighter bucket seats in the front.

i would do other mods, but my insurance will be astronomical if i do 'performance' mods, so i though do this first, then when insurance is due again in 6 months, change to a better company,, but if its not goin to make a huge difference ill think again..

also, with less weight, fuel economy would be a litlle better, which would be nice!

anyone know roughly how much weight i could save?

im rekoning somewhere around the 150kgs ish?

cheers

Yeah removing seats is classed as a mod yet retrimming they are generally not fussed about, just as long as theres the same amount of seats present as factory.

i'm with elephant, sister company to admiral - and when i rang and asked them about it, removing seats and changing the steering wheel, all the woman seemed to say was tick the box that says 'interior changes'.

She changed it to that for me and i paid an extra £25 i think it was, sorted ;)

I've been reducing the weight of my Pulsar.
I stripped it out completely and just had 2 Skyline seats in it but it was so noisy it just got on my nerves. I couldn't hold a conversation with anyone in the car. It's great fun round country lanes and reducing the weight does make a difference, the car feels more nimble. It's like when you've got a fat mate in the car and you drop him off at home you always notice a difference.

To reduce the weight so far i've..

Removed the Aircon system (Radiator, Pipework, Tank, Compressor and mounting brackets.)

The rear wiper (Which i've never used yet)

Fitted a lighter Momo steering wheel (Standard Airbag one weighs a tonne!)

Now i'm in the process of taking out the electric windows and replacing them with wind up one's from a poverty spec 3 door.

Also i've ditched the cast Autech manifold and replaced it with an Alloy HKS one.
I've put the back seats back in to keep the noise down but i've got some from an N1 which are lighter than Gti rear seats, the're basically just a big block of foam.

I've also got the Grey N1 front seats which are lighter than the Gti seats but i'm undecided if i'm gonna sacrifice the comfort of my Skyline seats!

When i've finished i'll weigh what i've got left and work out roughly how much weight i've saved.

Thought it would have been steel/stainless steel..
And Liam, I'm not recommending or promoting this in any way, but if you really wanna mod your car, do what you want, and just don't tell your insurer.. Just make sure you retain the standard parts in case you have an accident or anything..
Joe

thanks for the replies guys!

joe i have put in a request with my insurance company to see if theres much difference. i did consider not telling them....but if for some reason i do have an accident, then im proper fucked, so id rather not risk it....altho in most cases it is soooooo tempting. eg, admiral wanted £150 per year more to insure if i had the windows tinted!!! they would only cost me £130 to get done! bastards!

No worries you have first refusals!

Also i've got a full Autech N15 interior if anyone on here is interested. The're not in mint condition but may suit someone who wants something a bit different.
