I was (and nearly bought) going to buy a Nissan Almera 1.5 SX, and was hoping to get a bit more info from your guys around here. I’d read a few reviews on What Car claiming problems with the timing chain.
Anyway, took it for a test drive yesterday afternoon, and hated it. I’ve had an Astra (G) club for over four years which has been a good car. I’ve put over 80,000 miles on it in that time and never had an issue, hence I need a reliable car that’s comfortable. I probably spend an average of 3 hours a day in my car. Also, over the years I’ve been spoilt with company cars and driven loads of cars, Ford, Vauxhall and Peugeot. So I’d say I have a fair idea of what to expect with motors.
On paper the Nissan Almera ticked all the boxes; the price was less than its Vauxhall equivalent, fairly priced at £5995, two year old with only 17,000 on the clock. With my trade in and discounts I’d Have had to pocket out about £4,500. So with all considered it sounded like a good choice.
However, the test drive. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not here to cause trouble in this forum, I had genuine interest but that Almera had the most shocking driving position I’ve ever known. I really thought it was horrible. So then took out a Astra (H) for a test drive, which OK, a common average car, but in a different league to the Almera. Needless to say I’m picking up an Astra next week. Granted its £1000 more but I think worth every penny.
So, Hello and Goodbye, Thanks but.....No thanks.
