how many of you guys have been on a track with your almera's?
i went on on sunday for the first time, at trax round silverstone and im planning on booking a day at donnington soon. havn't got much cash at the min so just gona try n get a few cheap things done to the car before then though. probs just do an oil n filter change, get new front tyres cuz these ones have got flat spots lol and maybe new brake pads but not sure if it needs um yet. i just want abit more stopping power though.

what do you guys think?

feel free to tell about any of your experience of track time or any tips ya can give. pics are always welcome too :D

I've done Brands Hatch in my GTi. Its good fun and I recommend doing a track day. As you said, front tyres and brake pads take a beating. Also expect to use a lot of fuel (especially if you are doing a full day!). My car had a lot less power than some of the others there, but imo I think a lot of people get to the limit of their driving ability before the limit of their car so things aren't too bad!

I should have some photos somewhere, will see if I can upload any.

The long haired chump on the left had a 911.

You get quite a mix of cars:

Everything from Evo's to Mini's :)

Oh, dont do what a mate did and spin off into the gravel, otherwise you have to spend ages getting it all out!:

i think im gonna do a 3 session one at donnington so shouldn't use too much fuel hopefully. i think at silverstone it was my driving that let me down not the car (that was great). im hoping to get more experience on track before make my car any quicker. i just wanna make sure i dont ruin it on track.

`Open pit lane` track days are best.

I`ve done Donnington, Cadwell, Bedford, Brands and Bruntingthorpe.

As for brakes try EBC yellow stuff, but most importantly DOT 5.1 fluid.

Have fun!

whats the difference with the open pit days?
whats advantages of that brake fluid?
iv just quit my job to go back to college so money is abit tight at the min so iv decided i can only book it if iv got a job by the end of the month lol. iv got a driving experience day at donnington though on the 25th in a single seater that was a birthday present. i just wanna get as much track day experience as possible really. i really enjoyed my time on silverstone even though i only got one 20 min session.
thanks for the replys guys.
cool pics and vid too!

An open pit lane allow for greater track time. You go on the track when you want, come off when you want for a break........usually events last all day so you can get quite a few miles in.

The DOT 5.1 fluid has a higher boiling point so the brakes feel less mushy.

Doing Goodwood on the 29th Sept. In the process of "lightening" the car, rear seats plus anything else that's not bolted down :) New yellows going in this w/e to give them time to bed in and will get my video camera set up for some piccies.

Done Bedford, Kevil, Hullavington, Silverstone, Brands, but not Goodwood yet so this should be fun. Very fast circuit apparently.....

It's usually my disks that cause the issues. I don't get bad fade but have had horrendous wobble from the disks getting so hot. I've come in before from a session with my brakes smoking like crazy and my red brake paint has actually burnt off and turned black !

im guessin ill have to bleed the brakes to get that new fluid in? the problem with my brakes though is that they feel too mushy so hope this helps. how much does it cost?

cheers
