Tyre Help please

My front tyres are worn quite strangely I have 4mm of tread left on about 85-90% of the tyre but the very edges of the tyres round the outside curve has very little tread left, and I just want to know if these are OK or not, I thought it was 66% of the tyre had to be above 1.6mm is this correct?
 
The legal limit for minimum depth of the tread on your tyres is 1.6 millimetres, across the central ¾ of the tread around the complete circumference of the tyre.
 
Does that mean if the very edge around the corner of the tyre is worn, it will still be ok as the tread accross the rest of the tyre is about 4mm??
 
From what you say it sounds legally OK but I'd have your wheel balancing, suspension alignment and so on looked at because if it's wearing like that something is not right.
 
let me know if you find out what it is, my p10 does the same on the passenger side front tyre, its done it since we bought it regardless of the tracking etc being done, even went into nissan once to get looked at and they said it was fine, my dad got around it by putting el cheapo tyres on and not caring that they needed replacing fairly often but i would rather sort it and not eat through more expensive tyres.
 
I thought this was a problem on my mera, until I bought new tyres for it. a lot of tyre treads slowly thin out as you go round the curve of the tyre wall, and this doesn't affect their legality.
