your really pushing it with 18"s with a 40 profile + coilovers
i have 18"s lowered 40mm and it just cathes just before full lock on the splash guard
but i'm sure Andy has a 40 profile with coilovers, not sure what he did with his splash guard tho

I have 40's with coilovers and still have my splash guards, after all, theyre only peices of plastic, they dont rub anymore either the lower you go, just rubs slightly further down the back of the gaurd, go for 215/40's to be safe with the offset's, I had the 35's when I first put my 18"s on and theyre too hard of a ride, and dont seem to handle aswell as the 40's do

cheers for the help dudes, its the first time i've posted a thread, so didnt know wat to expect, i'll stick to 215/40's me thinks, and not to low as the roads in Norwich are pish!!!! Want a Carbon or Carbon/Kevlar bonnet too but will speak to Procomp about that!!

Has anyone tried 225/40s?
Looking for a set of tyres now, and following this, and chatting to Mick, i'm going for 40s, but not sure on 215s or 225s?

If your going to get the Coilovers, make sure you get the car laser aligned.

I never, and as a result wore through my front 18's in about 3 months. :(

Mate,
What you doin with your 17's ?

I have 215/40/18 in the front and 225/40/18 in the rear with no problems, however I did try 225/40/18 on the front and couldn't turn the wheel after one turn. I think Flamera has 225/35/18 on his front, other than that I don't think you have any other choices. I'll edit this thread later when I get a pic of what 225/40's look like on the front.

Nah i got 215/40/18s on mine too, seems the best option IMO. Dont do 35s if u get coilovers- you'll regret it when your fillings are on your lap after a few pot holes lol

At 18" the largest tyres you can fit on the front are 215/40/18 where it rubs slightly at full lock if you're going faster than 5 miles an hour (any slower it doesn't touch). On the back I've fitted 225/40/18 with no mods. The ride is very comfortable, well, in comparison to having the 2cm (215/35's) thick tyres I had before.
I enquired about having the inside arches modified on the front as the 225/40s don't fit (hence - can't turn the wheel) and was advised after taking the plastic guards off for a look that it wasn't worth the money to have it done. Apparently, there is a verticle strip of metal sticking out that can only be bended in to allow an extra 9 or 8 mm of space and even then... would still be short of accommodating 225/40s. At the moment the problem is the side of the wall behind the tyre (say if the wheels were facing forwards), where it pushes in at half lock.
Whilst on the subject of coilovers without fading too far away from the tyres, does anyone know how low you can set the ride height on 215/40/18's?

ah,the plastic thing, don't worry, it takes ages to rub through, Im not through mine yet and done around 35K with 18"s on

as for how low you can go, depends on the width and offset of your wheels, on my old ikons they were 7" wide and a 35 offset, the car would go lower on these than my latest ones, as they are 8" wide and a 35 offset, so even though the offset is the same, the wheel sticks out of the arch a further 1/2 an inch(as the extra inch is halved each way) this means that the wheel caught on the arch(so I cut about 1/2" off with the angle grinder) but the top of the tyre catches on the top of the arch were it starts to come down to meet the rear quarter panel, it cant be 'modified' with a big hammer either, as the top of the shell must be weilded on top of this, I hit it very hard with a 4 pound mel, which should be enough to knock it in about 5mm every tap(as I found out hitting my lasses car arch while modding them for a 80mm drop) and it went no where, with the car at standstill at my height the wheel is about 1-2 cm's off the arch, so only catches going over bumps to fast, or with people in the back, going to sort it(when I have the time) by cutting a bump stop in half and inserting the half in each rear side strut, but at the same time means I'll end up with hardlys any rear suspension

i've almost rubed through the inner plastic bit on mine!
But that was going round the track @ Silverstone on standard supension and 15"s!

My plastic linings are fine at the moment however, the front of the front arches (if you know what I mean) are loose but still attached.
I did notice that some of you have ripped out your arch linings at JAE  , that's unless they fell off?

hehe, mine got damaged when I got towed(head change went tits up), needed to get to a garage, had to take bumper off to get towed, couldnt get on low loader, picked car up fixed but didnt bother taking the bumper with me to fit it, drove about 8 miles home dual carriage way speeds, got home and some of the front liners had been rubbing against my tyres with the air pressure, and went thin as black bin bags lol, not that arsed about the front, its the ones at the rear of the fronts thats important, keep all the shite from flinging up into your door hinges etc etc, as the saxo boys why this is bad pmsl

I guess you're refering to 215/35? Does anybody know if 225/35/18 will fit on the front as it would be nice to have the same widths on my front as they are on my rear (the car that is, not my butt).

If any of you guys are looking for tyres try this place i found it a few months ago www.mytyres.co.uk . They seem very cheap and delivery and VAT is included in the prices. Might be worth a look for someone.
