Tyres

Right, just got back from fetching some standard gti alloys off stufa, and will be needing new rubber,so,firstly what is the best profile to get,or do i just stick with 55's,secondly any suggestions on make and where to get them(i'm in notts/leics)from, not looking to spend a fortune!!

hiya matey sorry for not being there when you turned up, :) wheel ok yeah?
i gave em a quick clean up,
get some toyo t1r's 205/50/r15'2 will be nice and grippy, good on price too :)
cheers stufa:)

Alright stu, yeah wheels are sound mate,i've alredy got one good one so the the curbed will do fine for a spare, what sort of price are the toyos as i've got them on my 17's at the mo and quite like them.

Do you know the other gti near you that i have put up in 'spotted'?

I'll get you the place where i got my toyo's from tomorrow, 195/50/15 for £28 each. Bet camskill can't match that.

cheers simcard £28 each:eek:,had alook at camskill £50 for 205 50 r15,what made you go for 195's,just wondering as the advice seems to be 205's.

Well for some reason 195/55/15 were £50, 195/50/15 were 28. I didn't enquire about 205's as the gti is lowered they rub on the inner arches. Besides, i was running some 205's before i bought these, funk all difference. I'd rather have £28 tyres than 10mm wider tyre for my daily driver.

I must stress though, toyo's are a great tyre in thye dry but in damp/wet condition i'd say they're average. You get what you pay for, ideally i'd have four yoko's but i dont need that out of this car.

Cheers for the advice, will probably go for the £28 195's,ive got proxes on my 17's and get on quite well with them wet or dry to be honest,so if you can pm the place you used that would be great.

Just looked on camskill 195 50 15's (proxes tr1's) £32:

£32 isn't bad, i'd just go with that, i might have got some discount on mine as i ordered them from work.

There's a tyre size/speedo calculator on here that will give an indication of speedo differences.

Edit, Standard 55's changed to 50's means at speedo 60mph your actually travelling 58 mph, shocker!

agree bout t1-r's in the wet - not brilliant. ok, but they are relatively cheap and v good in the dry. just makes for a more demanding, fun drive in the wet!

I've been using Federal Supersteel 595s for a while now, very similar to Toyo proxies but were cheaper when I was looking.
No complaints about them so far other than that they seem to be manufactured from highly magnetic material judging by the amount of nails and screws I get in them (actually I think that's just due to all the building work that's on where I drive).

Camskill prices seem really good.

hey guys, sorry to bump this thread up the list but there was no defo answer on wat tyre was best for the GTi standard alloy???....

should we start a poll???..................

No idea about r888 but t1r's are poor in the wet, don't let anyone else tell you they're not because they are. Ive had a few tyres on my gti's now and t1r's are definitely scariest in the wet and thats compared to some shite ones like nankangs.
