Under sealing...

any suggestions on prep work, application or where to put the stuff :D

all comments welcomed...

mainly just want to get the arches done this weekend :D

jsut give it all a jet wash out clear all the crap from in there!

then get it whacked all under side were it can rust!

not really - depoends which underseal you use though! and how your applying it!

i use my compressor and gun to blast it on so it stays put even when wet lol

gonna be brushing it on :D

all i got :D

cant remember the make but its in a big red tin :D

£15 odd quid for a load of it :D then im going to be buying some of the wax oil sprays for all the niggly bits :D

do i need to scrape off the old stuff thats on the chassis first before applying??

Rob, i did mine using a tin of hammerite waxoyl (£15 from frauds) a wire brush and a sheet of emery cloth.

Just use your hands to pull off the majority of the mud, take the arch liners off, use the wire brush to ger more crap off, then if theres some bad bits use the emery to get it back to bare metal.

Once prepped, brush on a coat about 2-4mm thick, and leave over night. If applying by brush id make sure it was fairly dry!

I took the front and rear bumpers off and coated under them aswell. Then did the sills and chassis rails, didnt bother with the majority of the floorplan, as it still looked new :-)

Also forgot, if you rub it back to the bare metal, use some zinc primer before you underseal it, also a good idea to do this in the more common places of rust too :-)

cool... ive got a drill with a wire brush on the end and a normal wire brush...

and a grinder just in case i find some nasty rust bit...

i know one of my rear arches is getting bad... got a rust patch in drivers side rear turret... it is still solid and no holes but its just started to let water in... if u know what i meen... it leaves a rust streak down the turret...

so i plan on applying some kcrust on the rust :D after cleaning off the surrounding area then plenty of underseal and and a healthy anout of wax oil and paint in side the car to protect it as much as possible..

any thing im missing???

just wire brush off all the loose shit and slap it on :) heavily on the lip of the rear arch and around all the seams you can see

oh! id take your wings off completely if you can - and really get into the silla-piller base and COAT it!

you will honestly thank me later

me, simmo and Elliot were talking about this yesterday - we think it should be mandatory top take th ewings off and underseal behind an all N15

It cost me around £40 in underseal and waxoil to do a decent job on my Almera. That includes the whole underbody, inner sills, rear arches, front wings.

For my latest sill work on the Autech i used a tip from Frank, which is mixing engine oil in with the underseal, this prevents the underseal from ever drying/setting completely.

i just done mines last week, i rubbed all loose bits of crap off and slapped the stuff on evenly. some parts are very hard to get into and thats when you start getting it all over yourself, wear gloves tucked into your jumper and something on your head

It makes me feel a bit happier that i had the use of an air line and ramp. You can just go crazy that way. I used a 50/50 mix of waxoil and underseal. That stays sort of wet all the time too. It seems to have stayed on very well.

But yeah like quicky said, both front wings off for a top job.
