Upgrading to electric windows...

As the title says, is it easy? How much stuff would I need to do it?

Thanks,

James :)

Well I've hopefully got that bit covered... :)

Kelv said the NXes already have the wiring for them in the A-pillar, I'm wondering if the Almera is the same - is it just a case of finding the motors and plugging it all in?

Haven't got a clue about the wiring to be honest fella! Nearest I've been to that part of the car was fitting the new wing mirror. I imagine it would simply be a case of plugging it all in though once all the bits are there, I mean they build all the shells the same then just add bits on (like the leccy windows) for better models.

If you have an early P1 it will be a fucking nightmare as they have insulated copper sripping instead of insulated cable. I had to replace both looms in both my doors due to a fault with the switches. Ended up using looms form an N-Reg Sri with switches from an R plate Si 5 door. The loom has 1 plug in the door shut, one for the central locking, one for the electric mirrors. Obviously it depends on the spec of your car as to how many of these plugs get used but i can safely say its a job i wont want to do again!

Phase 2 looms are a nice loom of proper cable so that should be much easier. AFAIK you will need door cards, looms, motors and switches from a donor car with the same number of doors.

The plug in the door is a total pig to get to, it has a captive bolt which threads through to the door and i was turning it for ages thinking it was going to come away (twat) whereas after loosening the bolt all you need do is reach into the door and pull the plug off from the inside.

Then it should be just a case of unclipping the old loom from the door (if it needs changing as u might find they only have 1 loom across the range) and bolting the motor and window runner inplace.

Do this with the window up to give you the most room to work with.

Hope this helps.
