hello i had a non standard manifold and downpipe fitted to my car yesterday.
when i picked the car up it would start but none of the electrics would work until you revved the car over 2000 revs then it all came to life . has anyone had any experience of something similar? the garage who did the manifold are adamant that they havent caused this problem and have checked fuses connections etc... not sure what to do now. cheers

went to another garage today and they say i need a new altenator

try the main fuse it's a 75amp if i remember correctly and is only available from nissan. i had the same problem because my mate hit the alternator with his ratchet and blew the fuse. you shouldn't need a new alternator and you should bill the garage that fitted the manifold and slap them for telling you it needs replaced.

Gurr had a similar problem after shorting the alternator to the manifold by accident (and nearly blowing his arm off). The 75A Fuse was fuct, he got one from a scrappy and it sorted the problem. His car wouldnt start and when it was jumped, none of the dash electrics worked.

Funnily enough the exact same happened to me
I'd just changed the front crank oil seal and drive belts, and somehow managed to connect the positive off the alternator to the manifold. Fuckin thing.
I didn't realise until I got in the car what had happened. The car started ok but nothing in-car worked at all, no dials or anything but the car started.

I searched everywhere, all the wiring and all fuses, and completely overlooked the main fuse....so let this be a lesson!! :)

I couldn't believe that I overlooked something so obvious

agh you see thats why a haynes manual comes in handy, disconnect the battery for any job lol

I know mate hahaha!! It's funny though some of the jobs they recommend you disconnect the battery for

Mind you I never thought i'd blow that by just changing crank seal & drive belts...just shows you don't it!! :D

oh yeah. my friend has done that before at work. but on a new truck. hmm shorted out the positive to the chassis and blew every ecu on the damn thing! oops!

sorted

thank you very much for all your replies i finally got it sorted today it was the main fuse!!!! cheers
