I've been to see a 04 plate almera 1.5 SE with 53k on the clock. Took it for a test drive drove well but I noticed there seemed to be a constant vibration through the gear stick. Is this common or a sign of a possible problem.
Seeing as the tone has already been lowered, it almost felt like I was holding a very quiet dildo lol. It was that sort of constant vibration. The car felt sprightly enough and I didn't notice any odd sounds. It doesn't have any service history so no idea what work has been done in the past. It would be my first Nissan (previous cars were vauxhall Astras) so don't know what to look for to avoid getting a bad in.
This is the AOC.. the tone starts out pre-lowered by 35mm (40mm in the rear).
By 2004 Nissan had fixed the fault in the earlier 1.5 gearboxes (badly placed oil filler hole) that caused many to fail.
No service history is always a concern but some of the best looked after cars are self-serviced.
The vibration is probably not a symptom of a problem but go with your gut after giving the car a good going over.
Plenty of other fish in the sea if it doesn't feel right.
If you do decide to pass on this one look into the 1.8s or diesels. The 1.5 is a bit underpowered and is a false economy as you have to compensate with a heavy foot. Got the same milage from my 1.8 as my 1.5 doing mixed
city/b-road/motorway commute.
