Water Pump?

Hi guys hope you can help me....I know my membership has run out but I will be renewing it on friday when I get paid. Reason being is that I was supposed to be having my mates Corolla T Sport off him but it never materialised! So i'm sticking with ya old faithful.

170,000 K now on tyhe GTi and its still running mint, apart from a little issue that started today....

First of all I was at traffic lights and noticed the temp gauge was just over half way which is hotter than usual for this car and the revs were sticking at about 3k so I thought it was overheating. Got back home and the fan was blazing away but the bottom hose had blown off and lost all water (due to rusty clip.

Put a jubilee clip on and filled rad etc with water and started car. The blowers are cold but the hoses are red hot....and fan is obviously working.

I'm thinking its my water pump or thermostat has fucked up....but i've heard an issue about airlocks etc although i've never had this airlock problem before.

Can someone give me a little advice please? I've searched the forums but I thought it would be easier to ask directly....thanks in advance :)

Also for months now there was a bearing/rattle type noise coming from the pulleys, I thought it was either steering pump or water pump....and now that noise has gone and i've got this issue...pump packed up maybe

sounds very much like your water pump has gone then, how long did you drive it with no water

Lol...not far mate it was only a couple of miles but the water was still dripping out the hose when I got back luckily.

I think it's ok now anyway, it must have been air locked as the fans are blowing hot and the temp is normal!!

Thank fook for that lol.

Cheers for the reply anyway pal :)

best thing to do to release all air, remove the rad cap, start engine from cold, alow to idle to normal operating temp and that will push all the air out the system.

The waterpump cant really stop working ( unless the belt snaps ), the worst it`ll do is either leak or become noisy.

This happens often to the bottom rad hose. Everyone who hasn`t, should change it ASAP.
