how much does a standard almera gti wiegh? and how much would i save if i took the back seats, rear carpet, spare wheel and tools out? does it make a noticable difference to performance?
according to rowdys weight saving thread, for your rear seats, boot carpet, spare wheel, tools out your looking at a 25Kg weight saving, check the thread out:
I stripped the whole rear of the pulsar i a had, rear door cards, seat belts, rear wiper motor, everything and it definitely felt faster but can't say for sure. When you put all the stuff together theres a fair bit of weight in it.
2nd pic down is my car, notice how high it is at the back after stripping. Things stripped were boot carpet, boot board, jack, tools, rear seats, rear seat brackets, rear seat belts, parcel shelf, parcel shelf and speaker mounts, boot trim and slam trim, rear door cards and rear side panels and front door cards.
Left the spare wheel in incase i got puncture but as you can see from teh ride height a fair bit of weight was removed, every little helps
My sunny ZX was stripped. took 40-50kgs out and it did make it seem a fair bit quicker.
Sound deadening wighs lots. get it out.
Unsprung weight is your worst enemy (wheels) Get some night light alloys. Something like 15" pro race 1.2s or speedlines/rays 57s whatever, but the best acceleration gains are to be had on removing the unsprung weight.
well i weighed the spare wheel and that was 15kgs, i thought it would be 20kg but still not far off. i think at the weekend i will take some bits out and see how i get on. i havn't drove the car for about a month cuz of my starter motor going, i havn't got around to getting it sorted, but it should be fixed thursday. how do you take the seats out by the way?
I helped a mate strip a Mk6 RS2000 for rallying. It took both of us to lift the metal sliding sunroof out ! Lots of weight high up where you dont want it.
Just stripped the PAS which saved 8.3kg, alloy strut brace saved another 1kg......i`d like a CF bonnet, and that would be about it, taking me to around 970-980kgs
