What to look out for when buying a N15 gti

Am really thinking of buying a N15 gti on sunday with 67k on the clock, which to be fair isn't much especially the cars 16 years old! Just wondering really what to check and look out for?

thanks in advance

Rust.

Rear seatbelt mounts behind the boot carpet.

The bat caves in the rear arches. Poke around infront of the rear wheel.

The check the sills as much as possible.

I would check the rear wheel bearings and check i the rear wheels move freely. Seized rear calipers are very common and costly, rear wheel bearings are expensive as I found you need to buy the whole hub as its one peice.

Rear hubs/bearings could be £300 and another £300 to replace rear calipers with new/refurb units

I would pay great attention to inspecting the sump pan, they rust badly and become soft leak and can drop the oil and blow the engine in worst case. Just be aware sump pan might need replacing fairly soon.

Suspension shocks might be on their last legs, replacments are quite cheap but the shock gaiters/bumpstop units are difficult to source and can be expensive if getting nissan units.

Rust and clicky CVs.

Rear wheel bearings arent going to cost £300.

Sumps are £80 delivered from the states so not bank breaking figures.

A quick ebay finds them at 85 each. Less if you can bothered to cross reference the part no and look for 1.4 or 1.6 items with ABS.

thanks for that Sam I have forward the video to the owner is there anything else to watch or listen out for i.e engine or is it mainly rust! The cars only 67k...what is the tax on the Almera gti's as I cant seem to find anything on the web

he also mentioned the car is fitted with a quick shift and the clutch needed to push down to the floor to enaged 1st gear, is this normal...but isn't all cars the same?

225 for the year, just goes on engine size.

Engines and gearboxes are pretty bulletproof if they have been serviced. Just check it has oil.

Listen for clicking CV joints are they are a pain to find replacements.

Hally he says when go over bumps there is a knocking but its from the exhaust. It has a full s/s scorpion and have been lowered. can it cause a knock?

wanna hope its the clutch cable, not the clutch (unless you handy on the spanners). one of the dearer things to replace if you aren't.

isn't rust a BITCH over there. only really get rust in the front doors from water trapped in the rear vision mirrors in aus.

are the dial easy to remove? as the owner say there is a fault with the rev counter? I have source one from a breaker in case I do get it
