QG18 +T have been made before, a couple in Australia for example. They seem to be worth it :)

We're talking almost £2000 now haha. I'll have to have a think I have the money just wanting to see if it would be worth it. Would be something really special tho :D. I wasn't going to tune her till april time next year. You've been an awesome help and I will be in deffo be in touch. I think we might be making a monster together in the next 6 months ;)

team scotland is all about the monster turbo mera's lol

well me and rick can help. we've done plenty of N15 engine swaps, as well as one GTi+T conversion so "kinda" know what we are doing :P

prices for parts

QG18DE+T tubular turbo mani and downpipe - £300
Turbo - £200
Intercooler and piping - £200
water and oil pipes - £100
full exhaust - £300
Mapping - £500
Injectors - £150? (not sure on this. ill text paul (almerasleeper)
ARP rod bolts - £100
recirc fittings - £100

Personally I dont think you need to open the engine to put 8psi through it. you would probly peek just past 200hp on 8psi from a T28 or T25 turbo on a 1.8. the gearbox will take it. the QG18 has a forged crank and rods, iirc they have deep ring lands and a MLS headgasket as standard. the weakest part is the chain... but there aint anything you can do about that.

id say map it on a dastek for simplicity. (and the fact they are here in fife)

ive not priced up suspension upgrades, but i'd budget £100 on polybushes and £600 on coilovers.

whilst i agree it would be nice to seee some turbo 1.8's the problem is youve spent 2000 and got to where the linit of the engine is without spending loads on forged/custom internals..

throw 2K at an SR20 and youll still have potential when the inevetable happens and the poor guy wants more power :) plus the chains are really really shit!

"the QG has a forged crank and rods".

Ian I don't think anyone has seen how strong the engine is, and it could probably take a lot. True though, about the chain. Keep it oiled, check the tensioner though and might be fine, but there's no doubt that the SR has more potential

its might have forged crank and rods but we dont know how much abuse these items would take being forged doesnt instantly mean there 300bhp+ holding parts nissan cut costs on the chains why would they not cut costs on the crank and rods?

the problem is the only way of finding out how much they would take is to brake them... and im usre this guy doesnt want to be a test mule.. its fine if someones prepaired to put the money and effort into breaking things to see what works but when you have a cheap alternative sat there with proven credentials its hard to say go for the turbo 1.8..

the other optoin is to DCi the thing 2.2DCi FTW stroked to 2.5 :)

Yes true. I guess it's if you're sure you only want 200bhp then turbo it (Almersleeper has proven that the engine can at least take that), but if there's doubt that in time that will be enough then SR20 for better potential.

If 200 is enough then it'll be easier as no engine swap needed and no faffing with management/ecu cross chassis issues. If 200 isnt then it might be worth the extra hassle to get the SR20 in. That for me is the sum of it :).

I am of course a big advocate of the 2.2 DCi :D £2k of mods would get you a good handling, 200+hp machine

tbh, there have been GA16's which have had 350hp thrown at them, just LAPPED it up. check wes at MotoIQ's sentra. 12 second QM on an unopened GA16, with a disco potato on the front.

the QG18 is the GA mk2. it has the same crank and rods, cast iron block, same inherent shit exhaust ports. only difference you have N-VTC on the cams and you have an MLS head gasket.

to say 200hp is the limit of a QG18 is laughable. id say the limit is more in line with a stock SR20. the only mitigating factors are the rod bolts, the MAF, and management.

run a dastek, swap to a GTi maf and stick some L10 Arp rod bolts and you have a nice happy QG18 with boost.

cams are cheap, as regrinds can be done.

stock valvetrain has been proven to 8k.

the gearstacks have been proven to 450whp

may not be the most off the shelf parts available, but there are plenty!

nissan tuning DOES (surprisingly) extend beyond the SR20 occasionally.

Not saying it's the limit but it's proven from various forced projects. I too think it'll take more, I was just pandering to what Ian was saying :)

Its the Pistons and head gasket i'd be concerned about...not the rods or crank or anything else.

Get a custom 8.8:1 HG, then as Dave would say...BOOST THE SHIT OUT OF IT!

was referring to Ian.

as i said, the forged crank and rods have been proven, repeatedly in GA16s because they are the same parts.

That's just it, seen in a GA so I think that's a solid guide for sure, but not specifically in the QG. But yes it's a good guide so no big risk, but as Dale says the different parts need testing and pushing.

and I'd love to see that :) I probably would have by now if way back I had bought a QG18 N16 (I nearly did instead of the grey derv. Oh how different things could have been!).

I have made up my mind. I am going to be part of the Turbo Scotland Clan!!! Run it low boost to start with just to brake it in 200-220bhp maybe then boost it in time. Looking to start the project in March next year :D I have up to £2400 to spend on this project. Let's see what we can do :D Would love to have an N16 with boost :P
