Right. Because I'm going to Poland for christmas I bought some 14's with winter tyres and I used my chance to weigh the wheels I took off my car:
So:
1 Alloy Wheel with 195/45/17 Goodyear Eagle F1 tyre weighs 17 kgs (2.8 stone)
1 Spare wheel from boot - GTi alloy with 195/55/15 Avon tyre weighs 15.5 kgs (2.5 stone)
So the difference is 6 kgs on 4 wheels. Maybe someone having lightweight alloys could do the same? So we know how much weight can be saved? Maybe someone has his/her wheels already weighed?
The 14" steelies I bought at scrapyard from another Almera - rear fits with no problems but I had to use 5 mm spacers for the front because they were touching brake calipers.
Car on 14's feels quicker, accelerates better, especially at speeds 70+ on 5th gear.
