yer they do look very similar to the pk1 n16 phillip!i can remember from when i changed my head unit. i only changed my head unit about 10 days ago too so i still have a pretty good pic in my head of it.
Swap about screen for double DIN unit and find a way to get output video of OEM system into input on new double DIN unit. That would be the best setup in my eyes as it brings the stereo controls up to a better level and it makes it all touch screen more expensive than option 1, but less expensive than option 2 and with more features.
Have you considered making a carPC? I'm sure you could integrate all the heating controls into that, I'm looking at building one for a small sum of around £250, if you wanted I could sort you out with a copy of centrafuse (http://www.fluxmedia.net/) for nothing, comes with navigation already, everything you need is right there...
You can buy 7" touchscreens for abour £150, then it's just a case of building a computer to run in the car (not hard if you know what to buy)...
It's another option for the N16 sat nav guys... if you want a bit more info I'll chat with you...
I was thinking of getting a CarPC but no point to be honest I got a laptop and I got a Xbox with Media Center loaded onto it with a 250gb hard drive so no problems with media.p.s. if you're going to keep the OEM climate controls Darren then the CarPC seems a bit overkill.
hmmmmm I would not play about with that stuff. could be expensvie lol.I'm not saying you definitely can use the CarPC to control the heating etc, but if you can find out how it's controlled etc, all the technical bits, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to interface a pc to the car. I'll do a bit of digging for you.
This question has provoked a lot of interest. I saw an ex Halfords fitter today who was stumped. Trouble is it all runs through the cd player and I just cannot tell what wire colour corresponds to what function. There is no ISO harness and next to no info on the web. It was all very naive and frankly stupid to play about with it all in the first place. I'm now gunning for getting the original unit all plugged back in a and fully functional (need an unlock code) and then I'll sell the car and buy one without the sat nav. Sat nav is outdated anyway. Thanks for all your suggestions and hope you all sort out your relevant situations. Moral of the story, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
