advice / help with my project

hiya lads not a full member just yet so not sure if this is in the right section , as ive posted earlier iv got a ph2 ( i think ) gti from my mate that im restoring to its former glory , mot + respray to come shortly but the thing i need help with is something iv been planning to do with a car for ages - supercharger
ive been doin bits and bobs of research for ages but never had the right car , nearly did it to the sri vectra i just sold , now i have the almera on the scene im really tempted
with my aim only around 200bhp and without the load of a turbo on the engine no internal mods are gona be needed , just worried about the headgasket , are they strong ? bear in mind im only gona be using low boost

i already have the following >

fmic
m45 eaton charger (from mini perfect for 200bhp)
2.5" ally pipework
access to mat'l + machines to make all brackets / pulleys

the plan is to use the very useful aircon pump location and belt
the physical mounting , piping etc i can do myself , the only thing i have no knowledge about is the fueling
my work mate does work for a local tuning company top boss in derby who have done these loads of times apparently they use some cheap programmable ecu's from america for these conversions , plannin on goin to visit him soon
it would be nice to think i could maybe just up the fuel pressure and let the afm read the extra air coming in but that probly isnt the case
i need to look into the following >
re-circ / dump valve
ecu / fueling / air

can the standard ecu be re-mapped ?
could i use gti r ecu / map ?
whats the simplist cheapest ecu i could use ?
if i use stand alone do i bin the afm ? and use map sensor ?

any help would be much appreciated , thanks . jay

Never heard of a sr20 being SC in the uk.

The stock ecu can be remappped, a few places do it now. I think you`ll need more than just extra fuel pressure....to be on the safe side.

yeah use some 440cc scooby injectors and a FSE/syntec fuel pump, and a remap should do it,

wil be good to hear a nice whine coming from the bonnet of a gti ;)

gona be quite a cheap build all in all , what sort of price should i expect to pay for re-mapping ? my mums cousin runs the rolling road at john noble motorsport at chesterfield which isnt too far away , might be worth getting in touch
would 440cc be best choice ? are these easily available
theres a few vids on youtube with these chargers , they sound awesome cant wait to get started

so you have never seen ross' SR24DES?

looks good , was this quick ?
my charger looks lots smaller than this , im hoping to keep the standard exhaust , looking at it theres plenty of room , does any1 have the spec of this motor ?

90mm CP pistons
darton sleeves
90mm crank
custom inlet manifold for 8 injectors
whipple charger
custom exhaust manifold
forge intercooler with custom end tanks

yeh it is, well it isnt actually running right yet, but i dare say it will be :) sorry to hijack your thread dude.

hope all goes well with your build

you dont want to use 'cheap programmable ecu's from america for these conversions ' if they are what i think they are, they read pressure and add extra fuel to a set amount, they'er no good really, normally put far too much fuel in and no ign timing changed either. Stock gasket should be fine with one of those chargers

small update ***
been to see fitz today , the guy who runs top boss tuning in derby (mate of a mate) and hes got loads of knowledge of these conversions , hes doin them quite often apperently , and got all excited when i told him about my project , so excited that hes doin me the deal of the century , hes got one of his conversions coming back in ( ford scorpio v6 ) as the driver doesnt like the noise and now wants a turbo fitting , so in a few weeks im buying the lot off him > charger / mounts / a range of pulleys / 5 th injector / pressure switch / dump valve / pipe work / brackets ..... the lot all for around £200 !!!! cant wait to get stuck in .
he reckons re-map is bull shit , as long as im running at least 3.5bar fuel pressure and a 5th injector to come in as it leans off on higher boost then it should be fine , all im worried about now is its location , lookin at the sunny im a bit worried about the exhaust ? where is his alternator ? im assuming its now where the aircon pump was ? i could mount it above the alternator but the coolant pipe is in the way , any ideas ?

lookin at the gti r ive noticed the throttle body is still in same position ? fitz has told me u get nightmare running problems like this as the blower tries to open the throttle on idle and jerky on over run etc , apparently its better to put a throttle body before the charger so once the throttle is off theres no way any extra air is been sucked in etc

When the engine is on vacuum, the valve opens and literally shorts out the supercharger so the intake bypasses it straight to the throttle, ie the supercharger runs in vacuum and doesn’t put any load on the engine. As soon as the throttle opens, the valve shuts and boost is instant.

Hi Great Idea , I have put a Pulsar GTiR in my N15 , Pulsar engine with standard pulsat 550cc injectors , and a pulsar Air flow Meter & 300zx Fuel Pump for the flow not presssure, EVERYTHING ELSE is standard N15, Wiring loom ECU Distribitor.

And guess what it runs loverly , need a fifth injector as ur friend said for when on boost and im gonna put a Air fuel controller on it to tweak it but seriously, it runs so well with the stock ecu , keep it simple mate and it will work a treat for you !

If u need any more info fella drop a line but i was so shocked the standard ecu had the mapping to run it so well

If u grab some Pulsar , 200Sx S14 pistons they will fit direct to your rods, or fit the rods and pistons direct to ur crank , it works coz ive done it , being low compression you can run high boost , trust me it will fly , mine dose lol

Good Luck , Dan

you got the SR20DET to run with the Almera GTi ECU my mate said there was only a couple of differences and just one extra wire needed for the wastegate or something how did you do yours?

cheers d2 , gona run on standard pistons for now and keep the boost low , the car itself is only a cheap project / experiment so im not that bothered about chucking much money at but i m determined to get it flying lol
