n15 2.0 diesel. Acceleration is crap, but I swear by the CD20 engine, theyre bombproof and I get near 60mpg from mine! Good ones are going for £500- £600 at the moment.

if you are after a good clean cheap to run car would something like this do? just see it and thought it might interest you.

Those registered before september 2001 come into the OLD tax brackes of simply up to 1.5 and 1.6 and above so a 1.5 200reg'd will be £120 / year.
Having just gone from a 1.5 N16 which was modified for handling and gone to a GTi - I think it would be a monumental mistake to go the other way.

Ah, I didn't know 5-door N16s weren't allowed here. I'll get my coat.
Seriously, though, Steven is right; Compared to a GTi a 1.5 N16 will feel like a bit of a tugboat so it all depends what you want from it and how you will use it. They are a bit big and heavy for stop-start city driving and a bit underpowered for motorway cruising. They can be fun on rural twisties, through, on a decent set of springs, Easy enough to maintain but bolt-on mods are few and far between.
Dare I mention the C word?
my 2002 n16 aint bad. only thing i'd change is the engine due to being slow but apart from thats it aint bad. it aint really slow like! and as for the tax mine was due in december and it's £145 a year or i think it was £80 for 6 month. so not too bad
Don't get me wrong, I like N16s plenty and liked my 1.5 enough that I got a nearly identical 1.8 after it, it's just that it can't compare to a GTi in performance. N16s are designed to be practical while GTi's were designed to be fun. Not that you can't have fun in an N16 it's just that that was not the original point of them.

Wraith i have nothing against 5 doors but i prefer the look of the 3 door N16 my dads car is great Techno Gray 5 door SVE so its a top spec 1.5.
I really fancy a micra to be honest bit of fun if get bored i have my old SR20DE in back garden ha ha
