Right - OK it's a slightly modified GA16DE..

Mods: Stone chips, Lost a trim on the motorway so they all got binned.
..About it really

I would mod it, except finding decent mods/time is difficult, and it's eating my salary in brake pads.. grr

See ? It's clean.. kinda.

Almera saloon, not many of those on here, not seen many on the road either to be honest. Welcome to the site. Stone chips, always a good mod to have . You must do a lot of heavy breaking then to wear through breaks in the rate that you seem to. Had my car just over 18 months now and not had to replace mine yet. Any questions just pop them up and one of us on here will be able to help you out with advice or tips on whatever you decide to do to it.

Cheers... hmm so stock discs aren't the problem, just my methods..

Had completely forgotten about this forum for a while (work...)
*note to self* be more active..

Any advice where to get a decent set of shocks from ? Bodyroll on the almera is a bit of a bugger, probably the only thing that lets the car down on the handling, braking bite (when the pads are fresh) is blinding for a car of this ilk, alas not too stable due to naff suspension..

*edit*
Mods... thinking about getting something done to make it look a bit smarter, stonechips being removed soon with respray on the bonnet while the tiny bit of rust bubbling is removed from the rear arches.

Whilst I'm doing that I could do with getting the rest of the trim looking a little more... purposeful, and this is where I run into my biggest problem - nobody seems to stock any body mods for an Almera before the new style.. Let alone the saloon.

C'mon folks, fire any useful links you have.. Thanks..

Exhaust is dying too, so considering a nice stainless pipe - not too bothered about noise though (or bling)
Optimum exhaust sizes ? I've read some places saying 2.5 inches, others saying 2 inch is better for pressure etc..
Fuel economy doesn't interest me, and I can't be bothered with the MOT time hassle of a cat-back.
Any suggestions ? (apart from not to yammer on so much...)

Chris

hiya mate your quite local to me then.
as for suspension you can either get springs or coilovers i dont knwo of any uprated shocks.
do a search both have been coverd many times.

Local ? yeah, you've probably seen me driving like a tit at some point..

Any garages in Derby good for mods ? only place I've used are ETS/CTS on Alfreton road.. quite good for exhausts.. And I'm certainly no mechanic.. demon with the old T-Cut & polish though

Chris

Hi, welcome to our little club.

If you pay the £15 membership fee a.s.a.p, you`ll qualify for the current Coilovers group buy that ends @ the end of July! :D

If you want the good stuff (& loads of little secrets), you`re gonna have to be a member to get it. ;)

www.motorsportworld.co.uk is a good place to look for bits, (got my wheels & some other bits from them) nice peeps to deal with.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, much appreciated..

Hmm membership's probably worth doing..

Paypal lost my bank details though... bastards, still gives me time to jump into the buy group though - what's the expected price ?

Sounds like a bit of an offer d0b0...

I do have a family friend type garage for basics - not too hot on the old modification side though, so expect he'd get a bit annoyed if I was to pitch up with a boot full of parts and ask him how long.. There's only so much a bottle of brandy now and then can smooth along..

First off, get a set of GTi alloys either off here or they come up on ebay once in a while. Don't usually go over £100 so that's worth doing. Get some clear side repeaters too, again off ebay pretty cheap. Remove the black bump strips, that's pretty much free!

That's Max £125 and it will look loads better!

Done a quick photoshop for you mate;

What do you mean PROBABLY  ;)

GroupBuy Ksport Coilovers £570 to your door.

Takes about 5 weeks to get to you, (they build to order, takes 3-4 weeks to get to our guy, then about another week to get from him to you).

Do a search for Ksport Coilovers, & it should take you to the thread with all the info.

To get them through a website would cost you the best part of £1000 after import tax & stuff! :feint: so for the sake of £15 a year, you get to save yourself a stack of cash! :D

:D may aswell go the whole hog then!

haha! nice one!

Although, is it just me, or does the front look Escort Cosworth-ish

Looks well nice though!

all I did was copy the top of the bumper and paste it onto the bottom, same with the side and the rear! I've created a new bodykit :D

nice... cheers for that, not sure I'd drop it that far though..

While we're on the subject of how far can a photoshop go.. thought I'd take a little of the old rampant piss myself...

Cheers Hally - some nice suggestions there.. definately worth a look at doing - though I've just boned my wages for the month 8 days in, 1k down.. uh oh - next month they're a dead cert! Anybody fancy donating a bumper to hack up to create the "Hally Sportkit" ?

Which brings me onto another point.. the coilovers: "GroupBuy Ksport Coilovers £570 to your door." err bugger, will do membership for certain, but will have to sit this group buy out until next wages come along.. much as i'd love to dive into it and pick them up..

Just leathered an FTO in the almera (arranged race, 15 mile course, 7am so roads were empty) handling may not be fantastic, but gotta love the little beauty for that.. I know I do - even though I do now need a new set of front brake pads.. another £40 down the pan..

Never quite made it to membership..

Thanks for suggestions folks.. I'll bear them in mind if I find myself driving another Almera (which I plan to do at some point)

Unfortunately the Almera you see above, didn't live to see the mods planned for it.

Patchy Ice is such a bugger, worse so when there happens to be a section of potholes.. multiply that by running on those crap FireStone 590's instead of the Pirelli P3000's (firestones could only corner in the dry, at the same speed as the P3k's managed in the wet)

Maybe if I'd actually gone for that group buy, the suspension would have given me the extra bit of control that might have helped. *kick self*

Still, managed to drift sideways (albeit through the fence) for a good length..

Actually, have to say - I'm bloody amazed how well the cockpit stood up - partly luck, partly one hell of a car to be fair.

*sobs*
Still, insurance came out at £900 (fully comp) - which paid for a new graphics card, and a substantial amount of alcohol I'm such a drunken geek.. Should have bought a new car.
