Another newbie

I dont mean to be a knob jockey (It just comes naturally) but for £4.5k you could get a good car.
OR
If you really want a fast N16 you could do an SR20 transplant for less than 2 grand. Then you have a tuneable engine with 140ish bhp on tap. Or spend a bit more and stick an SR20VE in for 190ish bhp.

For about £1500 you could build a fairly good SR20 powered micra also.

You could get a 1.4 almera equation N15 and stick an SR20 in, or de-gti a red N15 GTi with bumpstrips, plastic bumpers, spoilerless bootlids, for pennies.

That's fair enuf mate, appreciate your opinion. But that stuff's already been done a few times & I like things that are different. I know it's a very expensive route to go down, but I'm selling another car to finance the conversion. So at least it's not a loan or an extended mortgage, there's no interest due this way ! ;)

Supercharger

Thanks for the link 'edk' Had a quick look at this & I'm better of with the Rotrex fit tbh. The German conversion (if still offered) is exclusive of VAT & fitting - meaning it would be around £5K ! That's £500 more than the price quoted last week by TTS in England. I really want to go ahead with this (I know, I must be nuts as I'll never get the money back) but have to sell my other car to finance the work 1st.

Awesome not nuts, just a car enthusiast :D Plus, you'll prob be the only person in the UK to do this, and what a sleeper it'll be! Have TTS mentioned what sort of gains you'd get?

Gains

Yup - Richard at TTS reckoned around 165-170 bhp. Torque about the same :D Piggy-back ECU, Rotrex supercharger, intercooler, 5th injector, etc. Plus a look at the intake system - better flow from a cold feed possibly ? His only concern was whether the gearbox life would be reduced, but I told him I use the car on the road (not track days) and occasional quarter-milers at Crail strip. Does anyone know what sort of power a 1.8 gearbox can handle safely ?

i dare say the box will be one of them things that hasnt been pushed to the limit yet so you get to do that test.

i think its great that you are doing the charger conversion :D

165-170 eh? Would be interesting on a 1/4 mile strip yours and my car once they're done ;)

The gearboxes and clutches in the QG powered N16's are notoriously poor, particularly the gearbox in the P1's. I would keep enough money for a new gearbox sitting just in case...

Fair play to you buddy if this works out it'll be a hell of a machine!

Corbs - SR20 Conversion for the N16 for 2G's? Ain't happening buddy. Maybe if you do all the labour yourself...but 100% definately absolutely not if someone else is doing it. Completely custom everything. Believe me, I have investigated. Even so, an SR20 is a heavy lump, heavyer than a 1.8 + charger and I doubt you'd see the same figures (especially torque) without turbo action, thus requiring even more money.

Cheers

welcome dude, seems you are just half an hour from me. Nice to see the Scottish N16 possee continuing to grow :woohoo:
Are you in Elgin or Nairn dude ?

Thanks for all your comments folks - good to hear other peep's opinions & cheers for the welcome

edk - you're on ! Should be a hoot as long as I'm not picking up gearbox parts :O
