Door speaker size

Hi All,

New to the site and some nice rides on here, need some help are the door speaker size 5x7 in the fronts and can I just swap them out for 5x7 replacement speakers like the JBL GTO8627 5x7 speakers. I have a sony head unit and 6x9s on a stealth shelf just need more up front.

Or could I just put 6.5" door speakers in???

N15 from his profile, the front are some wierd non standard shape. You can buy a Vauxhall Corsa speaker adapter which makes them 16.5cm, think you need to drill a couple of holes to make it fit. The rears are 16.5cm. Welcome also!
 
Thanks for the help, Yeah I have a n15 1.4SI. vauxhall Corsa you say you would'nt know what model Corsa adapter I would need.

I did go and take a look at a Red GTI in Bristol but the other half went mad and said the next car we get needs 5 doors so I went to have a look at a 1.8 sport n16 not bad at all for the money it was up for.

Sorry no plans for this it has rust coming from every place and I have just had the sills done so not sure how long is left in the old girl.
 
Does anyone have a door speaker handy to measure up??? the size could even be 4x6 I see JBL do both the weird size speakers??
 
It's not, it's roughly a 9" plate of metal with an oval shaped speaker in, however the speaker part is part of the plate so the whole piece needs replacing.
 
Fair enough haha, as far as I know you have to drill new holes as the standard wire loom isn't the type where you can push a new wire through...
 
ic I did'nt take a good look last time so I thought it was just a rubber hose with the wires running through, I will get something in there fingers crossed.

i did come across the speaker wire adapter on ebay for £3 so if that works should be straight forward from then on.
 
Hi there, the best advice I have for you is take the time to make accurate measurements and cut some MDF spacers. Then fit some 6.5" component speakers. As for the connection you can insert the weird flat type OEM cable into some connectors and on the other end simply insert the upgraded ones!

The only bother you might get into is mounting the tweeter, if you had a Ph2 you could have used the OEM ones!
 
6.5" all the way the 6x4 and what ever weird size speakers are not cheap. Vibe component speakers from halfords for about 60 quid ? im sure the 6x4 or what ever speakers will cost you about 30 - 40 quid if not more. and sound quality is limited
